More 1st team all-defense selections than anyone in NBA history.

Kobe's resume as a defender is as great as anyone in NBA history.
And a few of those all-defense teams—particularly during the latter half of his career—were bullshyt. Dude stopped even trying a good deal of the time and would always be late on rotations.

During his prime he was a great defender, but 1st all defense all time is quite a stretch.

When Kobe got those selection NBA coaches voted on the All -Defensive teams.

So you think your opinion is more valid than NBA coaches that game planned for and watched film on Kobe everyday?

Crakkka please.

NBA Coaches get fired everyday for being stupid as fukk.

You think Tony Allen is a worse defender than Kobe Bryant?

You think Shane Battier is a worse defender than Kobe Bryant?

You think Andre Igoudala is a worse defender than Kobe Bryant?

You think Bruce Bowen is a worse defender than Kobe Bryant?

You think Ron Artest is a worse defender than Kobe Bryant?

:mjlol: Nobody seriously talk about Kobe Bryant being some lockdown defender. Nobody puts him up there with the GOATs. This man ain't Kawhi, this man ain't Tony Allen, this man ain't Scottie Pippen, this man ain't Ron Artest, this man ain't Michael Jordan.

Guys that actually locked dudes up night in and night out as their fukking job. Kobe Bryant guards somebody for 4 minutes and people think he is a great defender. Kobe stopped playing defense after Shaq left.:stopitslime:

This is what his own coach said about his defense

  • “Kobe’s defense, to be accurate, has faltered in recent years, despite his presence on the league’s all-defensive team. The voters have been seduced by his remarkable athleticism and spectacular steals, but he hasn’t played sound, fundamental defense.

  • "Mesmerized by the ball, he’s gambled too frequently, putting us out of position, forcing rotations that leave a man wide open, and doesn’t keep his feet on the ground.”

Front Court:

Bill Russell
Hakeem Olajuwon
Scottie Pippen

Backcourt:

Michael Jordan
Walt Frazier

Russell and Dream are both capable of playing the 4 or 5. No one scores against this lineup.

So Kobe's the only one in NBA histoy to get all-defense selections he didn't deserve? Did Jordan not get some of those as well towards the end of his career?

Yes. Kobe is better than all those guys.

Those guys never had the responsibilities Kobe had on offense. So they could exert more effort on defense all the time than Kobe. However, when we're talking about stopping another player for one possession, Kobe at his best was better than all those guys.

Even if that’s true, MJ was clearly a better defender in his prime than Kobe. I recall Kobe being an amazing defender during the early 00’s in stretches, but usually not really sustained for whole games. MJ was a smothering defender who led the league in steals 3 times, played elite D for a longer sustained period than Kobe, and is probably THE GOAT perimeter defender period.

If you watched Kobe as much as your stanning of him would indicate you know he was mailing it defensively at an increasing level after the Shaq years. He was probably expending too much energy chucking.

I watched both. Kobe at his best was just as prolific defensively as Mike. Def the more versatile defender. Why couldn't MJ defend John Stockton, Kobe would have. What about Penny? What about GP?

Kobe was defending Westbrook, CP0 in yr 17

MJ was a great defender no doubt but he wasn't checking Zeke, Larry, etc...

Mike tried to check Magic & got killed

It musta been nice for Jordan to have Pippen there beside him to take the toughest offensive player so he can rest on defense or gamble for steals. Kobe unfortunately never had a Scottie Pippen to guard the team's best player for him. Maybe if he did he would have had more energy to gamble for steals.

I watched Kobe his entire career. And when he wanted to he could lock anybody down. Its why most of the players he played against would always call for screens whenever Kobe was guarding him. Only Iverson could shake Kobe one on one. Everyone else needed screens. Even in 2013 when he was 34 years old he was locking down a young Kyrie Irving one on one.

Nah. Magic gave MJ that work in game 1 and that was it. In game 3, he guarded Magic the whole 4th q (Pippen fouled out) and he shut him out...0 points.

MJ was guarding a murderer’s row of guards and wing players of his era in the playoffs and got the best of all of them. He did guard Zeke. Prime Adrian Dantley too.

And Magic, Worthy, Drexler, KJ, Reggie Miller, Tim Hardaway, Terry Porter, Steve Smith, Gary Payton, etc.

Held a prime Drexler to 40% shooting in the finals. Shut down Reggie Miller in game 7 of the ECFs. Shut down Gary Payton in the finals.

Penny kinda busted his ass but he crushed him the next year.

Come on man. Kobe was not fukking with MJ defensively. It’s one of the main reasons why MJ > Kobe.
