Also the hyper-mobile switch-everything team

2013 Miami LeBron
Tony Allen
young Rodman
peak Draymond
Ben Wallace

That team would be annoying as fukk because you couldn't do anything to create a mismatch anywhere. All five are active as hell, all five can defend on the perimeter, all five can defend 1 through 4 at least and multiple guys can defend 5.

THIS FAGOT PICKED LEBRON BUT IS QUESTIONING THE KOBE SELECTION

I CANT

AND THIS IS WHY EVERY1 IS PICKIN MJ

BECAUSE PIPPEN WAS TYPICALLY ASSIGNED TO GUARD THE BEST PERIMETER PLAYER ON THE OPPOSING TEAM

IF KOBE HAD A PIPPEN ON THE PERIMETER, HE WOULDA WON DPOY EVERY YEAR
MJ won DPOY when Scottie was a rook. He was unreal on defense and was making plays all over the court and locking up 1v1

Either way, this is why they are the goat duo

OF COURSE..MJ WAS AN ATG DEFENDER, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT

I JUST WONDER HOW KOBES CAREER WOULDA PLAYED OUT IF HE HAD THE GOAT SF DEFENDER BY HIS SIDE FOR HIS ENTIRE PRIME, THATS ALL

Trevor ariza and Ron attest we’re the lakers primary defenders during the second 3 peat
Kobe was checking rondo not Paul Pierce or Ray Allen

And for the first 3 peat fisher, and lue got the smaller guard assignments and Rick fox guarded the bigger wings

Not saying Kobe didn’t matchup with top players because he definitely did and had success with it. But we not about to act like he was the primary defender and didn’t have help
Not to mention he had 7 ft rim protectors who could clean up his mistakes whenever he gamble and missed

You're a moron. Fisher and Fox were always getting lit up by their matchup. It was always Kobe going from 1-3 guarding the other team's best player during the 1st 3-peat.

Kobe checked Rondo instead of Allen cause all Ray does is run around screens. No need to waste Kobe's energy on a guy who isn't a one on one player. Kobe guarded Pierce some but Artest matched up better with him because of the size/bulk Pierce had on Kobe.

Nah. Magic gave MJ that work in game 1 and that was it. In game 3, he guarded Magic the whole 4th q (Pippen fouled out) and he shut him out...0 points.

MJ was guarding a murderer’s row of guards and wing players of his era in the playoffs and got the best of all of them. He did guard Zeke. Prime Adrian Dantley too.

And Magic, Worthy, Drexler, KJ, Reggie Miller, Tim Hardaway, Terry Porter, Steve Smith, Gary Payton, etc.

Held a prime Drexler to 40% shooting in the finals. Shut down Reggie Miller in game 7 of the ECFs. Shut down Gary Payton in the finals.

Penny kinda busted his ass but he crushed him the next year.

Come on man. Kobe was not fukking with MJ defensively. It’s one of the main reasons why MJ > Kobe.

Jordan was better off the ball getting steals and weakside blocks.

On ball defense its a toss-up. Kobe's as good as anyone in NBA history when it comes to lateral mobility and staying in front of his man. Look at what he did against Kyrie at 34 years old. We all remember Jordan at 34 getting crossed up by Iverson. Kobe at 34 was blocking Kyrie's shot in his face when matched up one on one.

Why didn’t Kobe check Nash in the playoffs? :mjlit:

:what: Have you ever played basketball?

Why would Kobe waste his time guarding a guy who is calling for a pick n roll every play and passes half the time?

Guys like Nash are stopped by playing team defense. They're not stopped by one guy because they're not playing one on one. They're playing 5 on 5. They call for screens every play which puts pressure on the team defense to rotate properly more than it does put pressure on the guy guarding him to stay in front of him. Kobe's an elite one on one defender. He's the guy you put on guys like Kyrie that like to break down the defense one on one to score. You don't waste a guy like Kobe on Nash who is calling for picks every play like a bytch or a guy like Ray Allen who is running around screens all day.

I swear to god some of ya'll have never even played in the playground with the way ya'll talk about basketball. You're literally talking like a person whose never played the game at any level.

But when did he ever stop any of them? Name ONE star player that Kobe stopped in the playoffs.

Even in his defensive prime I remember Reggie and Jalen running a train, Lakers needing to switch Kobe off Iverson he was getting killed so bad, and a 20yo Tony Parker getting into the lane whenever he wanted.

:dahell: Who the hell did Kobe ever play that wasn't calling for picks every play or running around screens? Reggie Miller? Really?

Once again, some of ya'll are exposing the fact you never even playing pick up ball in the park let alone organized basketball with some of the shyt ya'll saying. Other than A.I. (who did get the better of Kobe in the 2001 Finals), Kobe almost never played an elite perimeter player in the west who played one on one isolation basketball. All the elite perimeter scorers during Kobe's early prime played in the East. That's why he rarely ever had playoff matchups with them. The West was the land of the big men back then while the East had all the guards. In the regular season Kobe locked up the best guys in the East. There was the famous game in 2004 when Kobe asked to guard T-Mac in the 2nd half after he went off for 30 something points in the 1st half. Kobe essentially held him scoreless in the 2nd half. Probably the most impressive performance I've ever seen of one superstar shutting down another one on one. Then you got what Kobe did to A.I. several times in the early 2000s. He had 5-6 blocks in one game against A.I. holding him to terrible shooting.

Carmelo is probably the only elite one on one scorer Kobe guarded in the Western conference playoffs. But by the time he played Carmelo in 2009 he was on the tail end of his prime and Carmelo had a huge size advantage against Kobe. Still Kobe played him pretty well on defense the few times they matched up. Your post makes it sound like guys were always lighting up Kobe. That's absolutely not true. You named guys like Reggie that were running around screens or guys like Tony that were calling for picks. The only true isolation scorer Kobe went against was Iverson and hell there's no shame in getting lit up by Allen. He is one of the greatest one on one scorers in NBA history and shook MJ as well when he was a rookie.

I hope people understand the way it works in basketball. If you need a pick to get me off you, you are conceding I'm shutting you down.

That's why you can't come in here citing players like Nash and wondering why Kobe wasn't guarding him. If a dude is gonna call for a pick every play he's not worth an elite defender guarding cause the pick is gonna force a switch no matter what. Same thing with a guy running around screens. Why would you waste a great one on one defender by having him chase a guy like Reggie Miller around screens?

Some of ya'll need to go outside and play some ball before you start talking basketball.

You wanna know the greatest disrespect is the man that won 11 titles focusing on "DEFENSE" only getting mentioned a handful of times in thread, :stopitslime:

My team focuses on actually on skill sets if a player was better one on one defender or team defense- rather than names that i see alot posters put:

Jason Kidd or Stockton - i love Payton but kidd or Stockton were better team defenders while Payton was the better one on one defender

Sidney Moncrief, Kendall Gill, Hershey Hawkins - Best one on one defenders at the shooting guard position

Pippen- not the best one on one defender but team defense with combination of one on one skills is amazing...

Rodman or KG - again one on one skills with combination of team defense, both have a great combination of both...

Russell - is the smartest defender or one of the smartest defenders at all aspects of the game, while Russell isn't the block machine Hakeem or other centers were. Positioning, blocking shots to make sure his team retained the ball, 11 rings, etc... All show how a great defender he was..

SF was a tough one. For an entire career. I would say Pippen, Kawhi was the best defensive wing for the first 6 years of his career. P. George is also on Kawhi's level. You can also make a case for peak Lebron. LBJ was a swiss army knife for the Miami Heat.
