OT but top 5 Ice Cube songs?

In order of release/tracklisting:

AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted
A Gangsta's Fairytale
My Summer Vacation
No Vaseline
It Was a Good Day

HM: Steady Mobbin' (so close:sadcam:)

Too many to name. US was amazing. True to the game. Cube was crazy. Easily the goat.

is the names in your sig your top 10?

as for the topic Cube is a top 5(hes in mine) easily but I think thats where it stops. But i can see a argument for him being a GOAT but I think Jay, Nas, Face, Pac , and some others have much better arguments due to their longevity of quailty albums, amazing highs, and/or rapping skills, etc

More or less, yeah. There are more than ten rappers listed there, but those are my favorites.

its probably already been said by now but the reason he doesn't get his props is because he peaked too early for the modern rap fan that acts like rap started in '93-94.

most people that missed out on his run, use the predator as their reference point for cube, because that was his biggest album. so they pretty much judge him off of that, and aren't in a rush to check out any of his other stuff after they hear it.

and its not like he was burning up radio with his previous albums. he doesn't really have hits that get guaranteed spins like that on the throwback shows & mixes. dudes like LL cool j get slept on but LL has mega hits on every album, so people feel forced to at least throw him an honorable mention since theyre at least familiar with the singles.

when I was mad YOUNG and wasn't allowed to listen to the more vulgar rap albums, I knew cube was the man but I barely knew any of his stuff to confirm it. so imagine how the people who were oblivious to that time period view him. theyre completely numb to him.

scarface & kool g. rap face the same problem as cube.
don't even get me started on the '70s & '80s guys.

Tbh I'd say that Cube has 2 10/10 albums while Nas, Jay and Big each have 1 only.

And Cube's best album (Death Certificate) is better than Jay and Big's best

Cube doesn't have anything as good as IWW or illmatic. Nothing even close.

and this is coming from someone that likes cube A LOT.

2/4 songs had good beats, the other 2 not so much. But production is subjective, so let's get off that topic because it doesn't prove anything. You're the only one who'll say Nas had better beats than Cube throughout the discographies.

Yeah there are some West Coast MCs that are more complex but for the most part it isn't in most artists' DNA on that side. Plus as I said that isn't his purpose. Cube has done some slick rapping stuff before like on The Bomb or The Grand Finale (DOC's song). Complexity does not necessarily factor into how good a lyricist one is. Chuck D was never super technical. Scarface was never super technical. You gonna call them lesser lyricists because of it?

The Predator is more of a classic than Stillmatic and any Nas album not named Illmatic. Hell even IWW has been debated at times. At least Cube has 2 UNQUESTIONABLE classics.

Nas or HOV (especially Reasonable Doubt HOV) or Prodigy or whoever may appear more lyrical because they are more poetically-astute, which means their expression involves capitalising upon many rhetorical devices and poetic techniques. But in the balance between lyricism and technicality, that makes them better technicians in rap, not necessarily lyricists.

When something as deeply artistic for evoking emotion exists, as it does in Cube's raps, you cannot call him an inferior lyricist. He's one of the greatest.

Let's be real, these days you'll find a lot more people talking about IWW than you will talking about the predator. Do a forum search and see how many hits you'll get.

You'll even find current rappers stating that IWW is their all time favorite album (lupe fiasco, j cole, schoolboy q, etc...)

If you wanna compare popularity Predator sold more so this argument doesn't matter at all. Unless IWW went more than 6x platinum.

You really think IWW > Death Certificate? Your whole perspective is warped in that case.

War & Peace Vol. 1 - 6

Yeah real weak discography lol. And not to mention his Bow Down album w/Westside Connection and Straight Outta Compton w/NWA with which he was responsible for a lot of the rhyme writing.

I can't think of 5 rappers who have a better discog.

Same thing that stops the rest of them nikkas

:pachaha:

Love cube and he's very underrated, s penned classic group album, dropped four dope albums in a row, made another dope group album. But his solo hiatus let Pac take the crown and die wearing it.
Soon as he left,Pac dropped volume 1,MATW,AEOM, makaveli all before he returned on the solo tip

tbh Stillmatic is pretty overrated. It does have some fantastic songs such as 2nd Childhood, One Mic or Rewind, but it's also got some bullshyt like Braveheart Party:huhldup:

Production has its ups and downs (2nd Childhood's beat is amazing while Ether's isn't that good)

I'd say it isn't a classic.

It's like cube never advanced with everyone else, his skills stayed in the early 90's. Dude is a legend no doubt and a fukking pioneer for the west coast, but I never saw him as a dope rapper that had quotes that would blow your mind like a pac or a jay. Know I'm in the minority but it is what it is.
