@SirBiatch it is more poetic in that it makes better use of poetic and rhetorical devices so yeah, it is more technical. I never denied that.

But how can you judge whether his It Ain't Hard to Tell (first verse) for example is better than Cube's Bird in the Hand?

A lot of rappers have called Ice Cube one of the best writers and lyricists in hip-hop, and have huge respect for his pen game.

I never cared about that middle-school ass shyt.

Nas's shyt is more poetic because it's just more vivid. More images. Cmon breh. Read Bird In Hand and compare to It Aint Hard to Tell. shyt is just obvious.

Poetry is all about the unique image and how it illustrates a certain truth/emotion we all experience.

I can't keep dropping these gems for free :snoop:

This is stupid similarity lol. At this point I'm not surprised anymore.

None of these things do not apply to Cube though. So I understand your point but your application of it is strange, and seems rather subjective. Lyricism is hard to assess anyway due to its nature and the variance of its expression. Cube does it one way, Nas does it another. Both equally effective and respected. The objective measure is how technical it is, and admittedly Nas is more technical and poetically-astute.

Doesn't make him a better writer. I've seen Cube write technically impressive verses before but that's not within his general make-up, nor is it there to match his content, which is meant to be direct and hard-hitting like Chuck D or similar.

Cmon man, Cube is in my top 5 and I have no problem with someone ranking him higher than Nas, but you're being dishonest by saying Cube is anywhere as poetic as Nas. If you compared them as storytellers then maybe you would have at least an argument.

I didn't say he's as poetic, I said he's just as good a lyricist.

Quality dropped off too much after Lethal Injection, could even say that Lethal Injection isn't that good compared to the first 3 albums

Most of the other people in contention for greatest at least had better longevity

Nas has a notoriously trash ear for beats. Come on now...

Cube's discography leaves him in the dumpster.

Big? :dead: Dude released 2 albums.

As for Jay, it is pretty close, but Cube's peak work is better. I wouldn't be mad if you said HOV has a better discography.

And what d'you mean he ain't on their level rap wise? How do you define that? Because he isn't as technical? Lyrically he certainly is.

What happened to Ghostface? You moving on to Cube now?
