Zay, name the last 5 artists you saw live

Name the last 5 cd's you bought

I never went to a concert live I never had the money for it growing up.

Only albums I have are the ones from up and coming artist I meet face to face.

lmaoooooo

shows arent that expensive tho... get off the net and go one day. fukk take a friend nshyt

Judging from what I read on here, most rappers I like, would suck live anyway.

I rather watch a producer make a beat from scratch honestly, das more entertaining to me.

You make no sense.

Hip Hop is a full culture. 90% of these "rappers"(including some I listen to) don't even give a damn about the culture.
These rappers can't even give bacc to their own families, or take the time out to shake your hand like a real man, so why am I entitled to make sure they have enough money to put food on the table?

Hip hop "killed" hip hop.

Rap has always been a young peoples musical genre. This creates a few problems:

1. casual rap fans aren't going to care about old rappers. Which leads to:

1a. Rap is a genre without legacy. Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl played on stage together at the Grammys in 2012. That has a sense of progression and legacy tied to it. Rock fans all know Paul McCartney, and most of them know Dave Grohl. If Run DMC came out and rapped with Drake, most cats wouldn't give a shyt, because Run's time is done, but every other genre of music has legends that ALWAYS stay legends. Paul McCartney is STILL a legend in 2013, and even if he hasn't made new music recently, he'll still cause noise and applause and introduce The Beatles to millions of 12 year olds. No 12 year old kid is going to seek out Run DMC tho. Hip hop isn't like this, hence:

2. Hip hop is disposable music, at least by way of the mainstream acts. Hip hop has always been a genre that's latching on from the next big thing to the next. This isn't necessarily bad, but it means that the music doesn't get the treatment it probably deserves. But that is enhanced further by:

2a. Lack of variety in subject matter. Jay-Z is a 43 year old man with a 43 year old mans problems: raising a child, having a wife. What is it like for Jay-Z's daily life beyond the riches, the bytches, and the Cristal? We don't know. Because he rarely divulges. This is why Nas' Life is Good album really resonated with me. And Jay isn't alone in this. What is the point of continuing to listen to the music if it rarely ever offers a glimpse into the minds of the auteur? They're barely relatable. Meanwhile, rock bands were making stuff like this in the 70's:

Riveting, relevant, and most of all - HUMAN - content.

Hip hop isn't dead. It's just that hip hop is a circular pit of crap with a few bright stars.

Not directed to me, but you can't assume black people don't go to shows. I got to a lot of concerts as they're one of my favorite events and if it's a black artist, minus expensive festivals, the crowds are mostly black (tho some are a little more mixed when I'm home in the bay simply due to the area demographics) I buy albums of artists I truly like or when I hear a record that I believe should be purchased. Lastly, you also can't blame people for not going to shows, a good 80% of mainstream and mixtape rappers suck, these dudes have no showmanship, why pay $50 to see a nikka drunk and high as fukk stand on stage walking back and forth, got like 6 other dudes up there with him, etc.

CDs purchased: nas LIG, Yeezus :snoop:, born sinner, chrisette Michele better, Kendrick, Elle Varner, Ab soul long term, some schoolboy q singles

Concerts: nas, jigga & JT next week, new edition, watch the throne, rock the bells this fall, secret kanye/good music concert, jeezy, Madonna
