Im more agnostic than atheist, but one my main gripes is that he created us knowing who was going to go to hell and who was going to heaven. And that's kind of sadistic

To be honest, I was raised Christian, but was never heavy into the church (parents are/were). I just didnt feel that the word spoke to me, and that 100% of the book could be verified.

As I have gotten older and just looked at the world, I just dont believe that we (black people) are suppose to follow a 'God' that allowed our people to be slaughtered for hundreds of years, and just look from above and do nothing about it. There is no way that an almighty power would allow that, but I am still suppose to be thankful for my blessings and we are watching the news right now and seeing what is going on. Why would the 'God' of all people allow this to happen?

My biggest gripe is animals bugs in particular. Think of how many bugs you've killed they are made from the same organic material as us, from the same cellular processes , and if he existed by the same God and yet I bet you never thought they went to heaven

One of the biggest things from when I was a kid that stuck out was the supernatural stuff. I was a big comic book reader at the time and the Bible stories made me think of comics. And another thing was that previous religions ended up being called myths and I didn't see much difference from the myths and "religion"

Same here.

I remember studying Greek Mythology in 6th grade and asking my teacher why they call it "mythology?"

It was the same type of stories i was learning in bible school.

Of course she couldn't answer.

A better question is what are the books of the bible fundamentally?

they are collections of texts compiled by scribes...codecies and manuscripts

As I've said to others, the church as we know it in the US is continuous offshoots of catholicism which is in it self...an offshoot of the true church.

The reason some texts are included or are removed has more to do with the concept of "inspired word of God" which is what they are. When you see this for what it is then it beckons what defines the faith then:

The text/source or the truthfulness of the message and tradition? The Ethiopian Orthodox church has many texts linked in the vids in their canon. In the East many of the other texts not in our bible are considered deuterocanon but some texts are outright gnostic heresies. I used to look at many of the writings and become intrigued until I realized that its possible people can write whatever they want. So discerning the source material is a necessity by nature.

If someone tried to add texts to the Rigveda for instance there would probably be significant Hindu backlash. All it takes is to read the texts in question and decide for yourself
