y'all need to stop forcing Rocky's name on these Kanye lists. It reeks of desperation.

The DNA of Rocky's music sounds NOTHING like Kanye. The way Rocky approaches the mic sounds NOTHING like Kanye.

You can't say someone is a child of someone when they sound nothing alike. Yeah, Rocky loves fashion and Kanye loves fashion. We put a tiny check mark there but the rest of it is a giant reach.
I it wasn't for ye Rocky wouldn't be able to dress the way he does..Kanye broke down the doors to wear what you want in hip hop

someone just posted this in the other thread :scusthov:

i think its a perfect example of this fake-genius label. garbage music that people pretend to like because its different :mjlol:

lets remember that this genius narrative didnt exist from college dropout to mbdft, when he was making decent music. it started when he started releasing experimentel bullshyt at 808s :camby:

meh. I feel like rappers were wearing goofy shyt even before then. but sure, even if I roll with what you mean on that, it's such a small aspect of what makes Rocky great.

Even when he came out, he was on that Black Scale shyt. Which, again, is NOTHING like Kanye.

Genius narrative started at the very beginning, breh. College Dropout days.

It just got pushed harder and harder as the years went on

Nah. Kanye helped break down doors in that regard, but Hip Hop has always been a culture that embraced individuality in regard to fashion.

COLLEGE DROPOUT- "chipmunk soul sample sound evolving what Pete Rock and dilla did and making it his own... Kanyes drums weren't as good as Pete but his ear for the samples was amazing.."

LATE REGISTRATION-"chipmunk soul samples but this time Kanye added strings and live instrumentation.. Pushing his sound into a more grandiose direction.. Also fashion wise he was still doing the polos and jeans that actually fit you..

GRADUATION-chipmunk soul samples+ alternative rock, European rock, and house samples.. Combined with the strings from late registration AND now synths to give this album a STADIUM sound... Of y'all can't see the genius and the progression y'all nikkas just don't know good music..Also this nikka destroyed the hyper masculine dusty baggy Jean and tomb wearing champion "50 cent".... He was y'all last hope...but sadly...Kanye ended this nikka...and he's never been the same since...he's an Instagram gangster now...r.i.p 50 cent :sadbron:

808s- couple samples but majority synths and 808s not a lot of traditional snares ...and of course... AUTOTUNE.. But when ye uses autotune he actually uses it as an instrument..this album Lowkey influenced how music sounds....RIGHT NOW...and it birthed DRAKE (he will tell you that..40 even admits it) pretty much every beat you hear right now with the dark production, minor synth chords ..808s, non traditional snares and claps... Say..."thank you Kanye "

MBDTF- this was a combination of literally EVERYTHING YE HAS EVER MADE this is his MAGNUM OPIS.. A timeless album I can't even begin to describe how lush and how amazing the production on this album is... Also the nikka was rocking the red leather suit with the Horus chain...fitted af
WTT-same type of production as MBDTF plus he was holding his own with Jay sometimes

YEEZUS (yes it's debatable if it's wack or not) if you say it's wack I won't try to convince it wasn't ...I like certain cuts..blood on the leaves..on sight..bound 2
TLOP-same...
I agree with most of what you said except College Dropout "evolving" what dudes like Pete Rock did. Kanye did evolve shyt from them, yeah he has a good ear for sampling but he didn't push the envelope on it. There are way superior artists in that regard, plus his drums are ass in comparison to them. Ye ain't seeing the Just Blazes or Alchemists in the stu.

Then we have to talk about MBDTF having some great production but some of the most shyttiest mix/mastering and sound quality for an album of its stature.

Just some brief notes. Not to mention that some of Kanye's best songs that he gets acclaim from weren't even written by him. He is definitely a music legend/icon in this genre and one of the most influential artists since he came out but a genius he is not.

I save the word genius for nikkas like Hov.

:dead: @ kanye ending baggy shyt in 04. :camby: fukk outta here. White tees ain't even reach they peak yet. Kanye ended baggy jeans and white tees, but franchise boyz -white tee was a summer anthem that year. :pachaha: nikkas ain't stop the baggy shyt til 07 when shop boyz came out. You say kanye made it cool to wear whatever, but 3000 was doing that shyt way before.

There is a difference between saying your influenced by somebody and using the influence in your music. nikkas is not tryna sound like kanye. nikkas try to say 808s is what everybody is doing when it's not. they doing the shyt wayne was doing way before that shyt dropped.

Gucci mane and wayne are the two biggest influences in the game right now, that shyt can't be denied.

imo, Kanye's biggest contribution to Hip Hop will be how he brought a lot of legends and artists together you wouldn't expect to hear on the same track. I see him as a really great unifier and someone who definitely shows (maybe past tense) a lot of love.

It's a loaded question, as if his genius is a forgone conclusion. Post Graduation, dude is a trash as far as I'm concerned.
