Apple Lossless to go with my 160gb iPod. Every CD I buy I rip in that format. However, if I wasn't motivated to buy it, then VBR is ok.

GKMC in Lossless :ahh:
Common - Be in Lossless :wow:

i refuse to conform
I wrote a couple posts in a thread a while back breaking down how this shyt works. I explained things pretty well so that even idiots could understand. Maybe I'll look for 'em at some point (or maybe not :manny:), but I'll say a couple, brief things here:

You cannot (well, you can obviously, but you absolutely SHOULD NOT) "up-convert" a file (for example, take a 192 and convert it to 320). All you're doing is making it sound worse.

Downloading shyt from YouTube should be your absolute LAST resort. If you have to turn to YouTube for music in 2013, then I truly feel sorry for you. But then to transcode it UP to 320? :scusthov: that may be one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard.

I saw this clown actually post that mp3 >>>>> flac and actually laughed out loud. That statement should've made me back out, but I just couldn't do it. The quality of my music is very important to me, and I figured I'd attempt to help this lost soul. Of course you won't listen, but can't say I didn't try. Like I said, I wrote up some shyt in an earlier thread that explains shyt pretty well. If you're serious about music quality, just search by my name and "FLAC", "lossless" or "transcode" and you should be able to find 'em.

u a idiot but im not suprised at this smh imo most files come in mp3 u can store more files on your i pod then any other file codec because unless the song was ripped from a cassette the quality is going to sound good regardless because it was ripped from a cd smh lmao

MP3 Bit Rates
The MP3 compression format creates files that don't sound exactly like the original recording -- it's a lossy format. In order to decrease the size of the file significantly, MP3 encoders have to lose audio information. Lossless compression formats don't sacrifice any audio information. But that also means that lossless compression files are larger than their lossy counterparts.
You can choose how much information an MP3 file will retain or lose during the encoding and compression process. It's possible to create two different MP3 files with different sound quality and file sizes from the same source of data. The key is the bit rate -- the number of bits per second encoded in the MP3 file.
Most MP3 encoding software allows the user to select the bit rate when converting files into the MP3 format. The lower the bit rate, the more information the encoder will discard when compressing the file. Bit rates range from 96 to 320 kilobytes per second (Kbps). Using a bit rate of 128 Kbps usually results in a sound quality equivalent to what you'd hear on the radio. Many music sites and blogs urge people to use a bit rate of 160 Kbps or higher if they want the MP3 file to have the same sound quality as a CD.
Some audiophiles -- people who seek out the best ways to experience music -- look down on the MP3 format. They argue that even at the highest bit rate settings, MP3 files are inferior to CDs and vinyl records. But other people argue that it's impossible for the human ear to detect the difference between an uncompressed CD file and an MP3 encoded with a 320 Kbps bit rate.
There's no denying that, quality issues aside, the MP3 format is changing music. With music services like Amazon and eMusic, customers can buy music by the song. In a way, the music industry is returning to its roots -- the music single is becoming popular after nearly dying out during the CD era.
In addition, some musicians and audio engineers say that the MP3 format is changing the way music studios mix recordings. They say that the MP3 format "flattens" out the dynamics -- the differences in pitch and volume -- in a song. As a result, much of the new music coming out of the industry has a similar sound, and there's not as much of a focus on creating a dynamic listening experience. Why work that hard on creating a complex sound if no one can detect it [source: Levine]?
From this description, you can see that MP3 is nothing magical. It's simply a file format that compresses a song into a smaller size so it is easier to move around and store on your home computer -- or your portable music player.

You don't know what you're talking about. An mp3 can sound horrible even though its from an cd, I've heard it many times. Also an mp3 cam be ripped from cassettte, and still soumd good if encoded at a good bitrate. Cassettes didn't sound bad, just not as clea or loud as cd's.

This is like that time on SOHH where this idiot refused to acknowledge that Death Row/Dre actually advertised the coming of "Chronic 2". We told him that it was shown in the "All Eyez On Me" booklet. He said we were lying, because it wasn't in his. We tried to explain to him that there are different pressings of the CD, and the ad was only in the original. He said we were lying. I then posted a pic of the original, WITH the ad showing he was wrong, and he still refused to admit he was wrong.

Moral of the story: arguing with, or attempting to show this idiot the error of his ways is pointless. He does not possess common sense, nor the ability to comprehend what he reads. I could only imagine what goes on in pea-brained head of his.

People always complain about this and need 320kbps and than go listen to music through shytty as speakers or something...

imo anything 192kbps, if possibie 256kpbs = good enough...320 is definitely a bit better when you're playing through decent speakers...
FLAC is overkill imo...

you mofos realize your being trolled? the scene standard is and has always been 192 kbps at VBR (variable bit rate). this muthafukka talkin bout encoding a 80kbps youtube song and converting it to 320 kbps. muthafukka are you retarded? :rudy::stopitslime:

320 is unnecessary if you know what your doing.

when i import songs off store bought CDs to itunes i have to choose the bitrate, if i dont want to up-convert what is the best choice?
