Let’s start by saying this isn’t a Nas hate thread or Stan thread. I think he’s on the Mount Rushmore of rap but there are some artists that give him comp from a discography perspective such as...

KRS
Rakim
Hov
And...Ye (Ducks for cover :yeshrug:)

Being that this is the best forum on the net for hip hop debate (or at least should be) I'd love to hear your thoughts in the interest of edification.

Ghostface is the only one for me. Maybe Pac depending on how you look at his body of work (aka not counting those bullshyt remix albums he had 0 control over).

People I have close to Nas, although Lost Tapes 2/KD really elevated him again:

LL
Krs
Prodigy
Cube
Ka

I don't think Rakim is a contender. He doesn't have enough material.
Chuck D, Kool Keith, Prodigy MF Doom could be contenders.

Chuck for sure. His last solo was dope too (Celebration of Ignorance).

I'm a huge KK fan but he's very hit or miss to me. Total Orgasm tapes are my shyt tho. Moosebumps was cool.

Yeah, Keith has his Ups and downs but he is a top flight MC with a large discography. I wouldn't put him with or over Nas but I wouldn't argue with anyone who did because he is very prolific.

Plus a true creative. He does whatever he feels like doing whenever he feels like doing it with whoever.

There is nothing pretentious or calculated with KK.

Yeah, the only time I wasn't feeling him was when he did those albums with an altered voice and he was hating on the Hip Hop industry. It was beneath him, but he got back on track.

Nas has 4 classics in my book (Illmatic, IWW, Lost Tapes & Stillmatic) and 3 near classics (I Am, God's Son and Life is Good). His longevity gives him the edge over almost everyone and his highs (IWW and Illmatic) are 10 top albums in hip hop history.

However, I'd say these guys have the edge over him:

Jay Z - 5 classics (Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album, WTT and American Gangster) and 3 near classics (Vol 1, Vol 2 & 4:44)
Outkast - 5 classics (SPCM, ATLiens, Aquemini, Stankonia and Speakerboxx if you count it as a solo album)
2pac - best 3 album run ever in hip hop (MATW, AEOM & 7 Day Theory) and his first two posthumous albums and classics if you count them

EDIT:
How could I forget Kanye? 5 classics (CD, LR, Graduation, MBDTF & WTT) and 2 of the most influential albums in recent memory (Yeezus & 808)
