I don't want my fridge to have a camera or Wi-Fi. I don't want my dishwasher to be smart. I don't want my washing machine to text me. In fact, I kinda miss knobs and dials and knowing big appliances would last 20 years and could still be repaired.

And a lot of those internet appliances aren't properly secured so they provide an endpoint for crackers to infiltrate your network. And even if the smart nonsense doesn't get hacked, it'll still stop working anyway because the manufacturer shut down the DRM servers.

I discovered the value of having a notice sent to my phone showing how long was left on the DW, when I ended up with a builder selected DW that has no controls visible when the door is shut. Just a light to let you know it’s running…

And no I don't want to pay 300% of the price of a normal machine to make this happen.

Sadly no money to be made on this. All the gizmos can be marketed as making something 'sophisticated'/smart etc and advertised with peeps dancing about in a carefree manner. AND they have built in obsolesce, which means they are not designed to last much beyond a few years.

I find that things with computer chips don't last that long in a humid kitchen environment too. Which is why I have an old fashioned crockpot and rice cooker.
