What's wrong with this, is that the people really don't acknowledge the reality of this...or that being conditioned to act in a certain manner, is not simply something one can always turn on and off depending on the scenario.
maybe. i think many people realize that though. nobody denies that war and other trauma causes PTSD. people argue on how to treat it and integrate those with it into society at large, for sure.

what's really WRONG here is that a SPORT causes people to act like this. a ballgame that doesn't and CAN'T even carry the often misused "national security" and "duty" buzzwords that military service can.

There's obviously a problem that's getting ignored. Those are from 2013

The NHL only has like 100 or so less players than the NFL but difference in arrest and shyt is huge.

NHL team has a 23 man roster ..... and an NFL roster 53 players.... your math doesn't add up.

so playing football is similar to going to war

got it.

wot a sport :wow:
You are trying too hard to simplify this. You have to know that there are some real parallels. Not with severity of the jobs obviously, but with the way they prepare and mindset. I can see how playing in the NFL could alter judgement for some people, just like being in a war could alter the mental state of some people. Obviously going to war would be the highest level of altered mind state but there are similarities.

I can see how some race car drivers would be aggressive drivers on the highway.
How a psychologist would over analyze the smallest situation in real life.

If you are willing to admit everyone isn't built to handle conflict the same way, how hard is it to admit playing a violent sport for 20 years old could have an impact off the field.

Boxers have been like this since for thousands of years...and nobody is crying about how boxing has a problem with violence.

of course. i was being tongue-in-cheek there. i do think it's offensive to compare anything but war to war, but that's another issue. the fact that we're having this conversation undercuts the entire spirit of athletics, to be honest.

my point is that the costs of football for many years is too high. at least the military gives a steady paycheck and other viable skills.

altered judgment, i.e. violent reactions to daily situations for some weekend glory? nah, bad idea.

uh yeah i think many people have a problem with the violence of boxing. and now you're comparing a ballgame to a sport where the point is to beat someone up and not get beat up.

even UFC has adapted its rules to decrease head injuries, and that, with boxing, is the ultimate machismo sport. so clearly, someone somewhere was "crying"

Nobody is saying much about boxing at all it's dead in the mainstream outside of Floyd fights

Football is gonna go the way of boxing eventually because people are seeing how dangerous it is and a lot less kids will participate

It has 36 times more arrests!

You can also look at how the majority of NHL players come from countries with far lower crime rates, and rates of violent crime than America has.

Canada is the country where an NHL player is most likely to be of origin, and has a crime rate 43% lower than the US.

Czech Republic,Finland,Slovakia,Sweden ( the other most represented countries in the NHL not including Russia and the US) have crime rates anywhere from 50% to 98% lower than the US.

people who come from places with lower crime rates, are more likely to not commit crime breh.

Is there any real difference from guys punching each other, and guys using their bodies as projectiles and battering rams to inflict punishment on their opponents?

UFC adapting it's rules to be whatever will make it look more civilized to a pretentious, reactionary and racist fanbase:lupe:.... don't confuse that with this breh.

yeah, the difference is that the object of football is to get the ball across the goal line.

but you've proven a few times in this thread why football is only liked by a select few worldwide and why the culture of it turns so many off who weren't born into - and increasingly more and more who were.

and now we're apparently in agreement that it has the potential to make people act like psychopaths off the field as well.

for the record, i dont think there is something specifically wrong with NFL players, but i do think the game CAN reinforce violent impulses, and you've agreed with that here. combined with a league focused solely on the bottom line and a culture of male fans who link their masculinity with the violence of the sport, the whole environs of the game is fukked and headed downhill.

i dont really know what you're on about with racist UFC fans, im not one myself. the rule i was referring to is kicking people in the head while they're down, which has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the projected target audience of converted MMA fans being turned off by people on the ground getting kicked in the head.

.

Football isn't going anywhere, because it's fundamental elements ( violence, racism, exploitation) are fundamental elements of American culture....Football is uniquely American because it's rooted in what got America to where it is as a Super Power.

what i'm getting at with UFC, is that it promotes itself as the civilized and sophisticated combat sport...they've gotta pander to their pretentious fanbase in every minute way possible.
