folks split when I was like 2. Stayed in my life and I spent most weekends at his crib until I hit HS and wasn't really trying to not kick it with my peoples just to stay with pops. That said he was and still is a community activist/revolutionary cat. Basically back home whenever there was a protest/rally about police brutality, housing discrimination, really anything related to black folk or poor folks, he either organized it or was a part of it. Young Verbal spent plenty of Saturday mornings on the back of a pickup truck rolling like 5 mph next to my pops with a blowhorn talkin bout 'no justice, no peace, prosecute the police'. Used to come to school and the other kids were like 'yo I saw you on the news next to your pops'. Good dude, pretty good father but definitely put the struggle first IMO.

Great, pops raised me as a single father for almost 10 years. Respected my shyt, and I did in return. Told me to keep things in check, get good grades, etc. So I did and never caused him any worry. :manny:

We were more boys than anything, which creates its own sense of unique circumstances.

Incredible father. Taught me the value of hard work, honor, respect, and family

Even though he had his personal demons, he did everything in his power to provide for 7 kids. Sometimes taking on 3 jobs just to make sure we we're good

I love that man with all my heart, without him I wouldn't be where I'm at today

My pops wasn't and still ain't shyt. It took me 25 Years for it to finally click, but that little girl in me wanted to believe otherwise. I love him because he's my dad and the only one that I'll ever have.

My step daddy though .....
I love the man with all my heart. He is My dad . I have his morals and values, it was him that taught me how a man should treat a lady, he taught me how to read, write, tell time, tie my shoe, how to fight, took me on my first date etc etc and he never put his hands on me.

Looking back though I'm glade I was raised by my step dad instead of my real dad. I would probably be one fukked up lady if I had.

Thanks OP for getting me all emotional:mjcry: ... I'm bout to go call my step dad right now

The quiet type.
Edit: he rarely talked to us, me and my siblings. But he cared. Don't think he knew how to express that. We watched alot of movies together. Guess he gave me my whole style now that I think of it. Don't think he was able to relate to us cause of the generational gap. Come to think of it, why did my parent even have kids?

I know my father but he wasn't in my life so goes the story of many black youth, left to fend for ya self destitute with dispute wondering how to commute; left to wonder if this bytch really love you for you, or is she just appealing to the mystery of a fatherless youth.
