90% of the time it comes off inauthentic or boring when rappers "mature" their content.

I don't care about what healthcare plan you purchased, I don't care about Dad topics, I don't care about your thoughts on investments, I don't care about your opinions on social things (if that hasn't been your MO).

I listen to rap to be entertained.

I prefer street raps to still rap about street shyt, just approach it differently. Get into more story telling, get into more ups and downs and highs and lows and have some kinda message you're conveying at the end of it, without being preachy. I think it can be done.

It’s low key embarrassing seeing old head rappers in their 40’s and 50’s still rapping about the shyt they did during their 20’s and even 30’s. :francis:

Nas & Hov didn’t sound unauthentic which mature content. Maybe other rappers should try it

It definitely ain't just New York rappers. But Hov is the only guy who comes to mind for me, who aged gracefully, his content evolved as he aged and got further away from his past...

If anyone knows anyone else who has done so, plug me in, because those are the guys who are real inspirations. The guys who were really outside at a point of time, but grew beyond it and their art evolved with them...
Nas?

Not trying to derail the thread with a different convo but I mean guys who were legit street guys who transitioned. Nas was an "I know some guys" affiliate, he was never outside like that...

But yes he had street raps and elevated his content from it...

What do you have to do to be a street guy in your opinion?

I don't like Jay and Nas new music like that. King Disease shyt was cool, Magic shyt was cool. 4:44 was cool.

But I don't listen to them shyts like that. It don't compare to their street music imo
