The problem was that it squeezed out other types of rap music. The artists caught the heat that should have been directed at radio and video programming directors.

People on here always say the mid 2000s was the worse time in hiphop

I wanna know why?

I guess in retrospect, the songs that were considered "wack" can sometimes become classics. In 98-99 hip hop heads hated on Nelly, fast forward ten yrs and country grammar is a classic. Same idea for these records. I also think the bar keeps goin lower n lower for what's acceptable. In 2003, i used to think Jeezy was god awful, then he grew on me. Now I think young scooter is the worst, but I guarantee in 2-3 years hell b upstaged by some new cat who redefines what it means to b :trash: With that said tho, I thought most of the songs OP posted, save for shoulder lean, were trash but very fun songs when they came out n still do to this day. But on the other hand, they served their purpose n I have some great HS/college memories where they provided the soundtrack.

That music was great, that's why all the artists involved had long careers, remembered and respected by everyone...

Taking that route huh :mjpls:

Im just fukkin with you Im sure you're a bright brother..

The problem was lack of balance...Sayin Black folks aren't allowed to dance and have fun is a red herring...Calling people that call for more substance and consciousness cacs, lames and fakkits is irresponsible...

There is a time and place for everything..And party and bullshyt in moderation is one of the guilty pleasures that makes a hard life worth living..

But when is enough, really enough???...

I addressed this earlier...

And bottom line is most of them songs were flat out wack...But when your drunk, happy and a big booty hoe is poppin it infront of you, I get why you're able to overlook that reality in the moment...

Mid 2000's is 2004, 2005, and 2006. Some of those songs posted are late 2000's songs. But anyway, early 2000's (2000-2003) gangster rap >>>> mid 2000's-2013.

shyt was mostly wack. :manny:

It's as simple as that.

And earlier in the thread someone pointed out, none of these people have careers now. And someone responded, that happens anyway....bullshyt. Whether or not it's hard to have longevity in rap is totally unrelated to what happened here specifically. The reason those people no longer have careers is because they tried to hop on a trend, the trend died out, and now they probably work at McDonalds.

Well apparently its a bad thing for black folk to have a good time and enjoy OUR music. I was in college from 2002-2006 and that music provided the sound track to my party experience. You have to be a lame, a cac, or a virgin to not have enjoyed bytches shaking that ass to Get Low in the club. Good times good times

Hol' up..."Get Low" is not one of these songs we talmbat...it's a similar highway, but a different lane.

...and this ain't just a "black folk" thing...which is also part of the reason these irked me...

None of those artists were actually good...

*BUT*... you really asked a bunch of dudes who don't go to the club or dance what was wrong with dance songs? :mjpls:

I have Hip Hop Elitist friends... they don't dance... they go to parties where they play Tech N9ne & Little Brother songs all night & dudes just sit there with there drink in their hand nodding their heads to the beat & hollering at the fake hip hop chicks whose only conversation is about how much they hate Lil' Wayne & Chris Brown but come off just as dumb as chicks who think Dem Franchise Boyz are good rappers... :heh:
