Late 70s to now and it's not close. That's too long a range compared to everything else lol

I voted the funk/disco era just because you had Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Prince, Minnie Riperton, P-Funk, Earth Wind & Fire and the Isley Bros in their prime.

The Soul/Motown era is my 1b. The 60s, 70s and early 80s were all goated though… I can’t see there ever being another era like that ever again.

Next time it might be a good idea to break it up by decades, OP.

Music tends to go in cycles. I can’t speak on the pre-60s, but in the 60s (Motown era), you had great music, but it was about having a formula to make sure the song became a hit. In the 70s, it seems as though artists wanted more creative freedom, and you had an explosion of different types of music. In the 80s, it seems like it went back to being focused on hit making. In the late 80s-90s with rap exploding, you saw the creativity come back. Rappers had their own paths. After that, when rap became the highest selling genre, it was all about the hits again. And so on...

It's not really an option on the poll but I'm going to say the entire 70's is the greatest decade of Black American music and it's not even remotely close. You had so much heat from so many different types of artists and genres it was crazy.

My favorite sound was from the late 70's... all thru the 80's and the early 90's.

That time period is when I think Funk, soul, Rap and R&B was at its best, with the bulk of it being all through the 80's.

So... 1977 - 1993. Best of the Best.
