Why aren't there any being released now days?

While its not the only genre that has all but disappeared(The Rail Shooter, Side scrollers, etc...)

You would think that someone would have re-evented that genre of gaming by now.

Early 90's

EVERYTHING had a beat em up.

The Simpsons
X-Men
Ninja Turtles
Final Fight
Streets Of Rage
The Punisher
The Avengers
Golden Ax
TMNT
Double Dragon

It was one of the best things about gaming. Why hasn't it transitioned into the new era of gaming?

Call of Duty forced studios to put more money into FPS, and the other's trying to keep the beat'em up alive brand them as "action/Adventure" DMC, Bayonetta and games like that are beat em ups no matter how much story you dress them up in.

But the Dynasty Warriors series is the last true beat em up, hordes of enemies, bosses, super overpowered protagonists. Its a beat em up.

You also have the fist of the north star games they got out now too. IMO, they tend to get kinda repetitive and stale after awhile. That and everything that was mentioned.

Add those two Xmen Legends game to the list. I think those are classics.

I don't think it's profitable for companies to make beat em ups anymore. Would you pay 60 bucks for one? I would but I'm sure most of the masses would not. I think they could make beat em ups better by being more creative with them. They should try adding more strategy or puzzles to them to entice fans of other genres to really buy into it. I'm waiting for a company that will combine many elements of several genres into one game but still maintains it's beat em up status.
