what was the last hip hop album that you could really call a classic?

I heard Illmatic in 2003 for the first time and was listening to it endlessly by 2004. No one was calling it "classic". It was just "yo this is a great album". I didn't see all the write-ups and major classic talk till the late 2000s. Years after.
