On a very basic level the rioting would severely impact the entire city and bring it to a halt. Think about the financial losses on a macroeconomic scale not individually.

The losses will be in the tens of millions if not more. EVERYONE is affected. As such the pigs will definitely think twice before executing another unarmed black teenager in broad daylight. I'd like to think the life of Mike Brown can't be quantified in dollars that's just me.

Discussing civility in the face of systemic racial profiling, arrests, and murder of black men/women is an art that cacs have perfected.

Focus on the aggrieved instead of the perpetrators in this case the 94% white Ferguson PD, which is operating with impunity in a 67% black area.

You're right that Mike Brown's life can't be quantified in dollars. That's why fukking up the economy in your own backyard is pointless. I could see a case for this if this had happened in DC or NY or LA, but no one outside of St Louis cares about the economy of St Louis and it's suburbs.

I'm not trying to encourage anyone to be civil or behave themselves. I want effective actions that lead to results. We've seen riots in our community before and they've historically accomplished very little. The LAPD killed a brother in the streets just earlier this week and it wasn't because they forgot about the LA riots in the 90's. Reality is you can't intimidate the police because they have guns and a license to use them.

You have to put pressure on the people who have the power to change things and those people are not in Ferguson; they're in the State Capitol and in DC.

I'm sure some businesses were non black. But the riots are taking place in black neighborhoods. And historically riots in black neighborhoods = damage to many black businesses.

Even if they weren't, what does it matter? The Chinese family with the restaurant has nothing to do with crooked out of control cops. So what's accomplished in buring their restaurant down?
