I never said NY had all the cards, but they have that contract extension just like the Nuggets did when they traded Melo for a bunch of picks and players. Just like CP3 wouldn't just walk because he could lose $30 million you think Melo won't end up agreeing to be traded for the same thing? This is what the owners fought for in the CBA to make sure it was really tough financially for guys to just walk. Howard took that L but Howard tried to go with the money first. The Lakers just imploded to the point he said fukk it.

Also that trade doesn't gut your team. You would have Noah, Rose, Melo, and some combination of Snell, Mirotec, and/or Butler and the MLE plus the allure to teams to come play with a core of Noah, Melo, and rose. Also like you said you guys have picks you can offer 3 1st round picks and only miss out on this years draft (then again i would prefer the knicks take the bulls 2016 pick and leaving them the kings picks because i don't know if they make it out of the lottery between now and 2017).

Heres the thing too if your going to lose Boozer and Taj regardless. Is Butler, 2 draft picks in 1 draft (at worse 3 in 2) and maybe Mirotec going to stop the bulls FO from getting Carmelo anthony? On the flip for the knicks if they got to rebuild 100% thats not a bad haul because they Boozer is another 2015 expiring to try to trade (or just let walk) and Taj could be moved for possibly another 1st rounder if they feel like it.
That's the thing melo would be foolish to make that same mistake twice cause it led to him being in ny with a team not good enough to win it all. And again the word out the horse mouth itself is that he will take a paycut. If he true to that then the leverage of the extension weakens

But don't get it twisted, taj is not a deal breaker. If it comes down to melo vs him taj can :camby:

With the picks and MLE we can find another taj and let thibs build him up. So from that perspective I agree with you

man that paycut thing I think was in regard to the kobe max. the question was would he seek that and he basically said no. but to drop down to 16 million? To play alongside noah and rose? when :deadrose: is getting a full max? I highly doubt it.

Also he has said multiple times he would stay in NY and would feel "blessed to play on a Phil Jackson ran team".

All that said we don't know what he will do all we can do is comment on his history, and his history doesn't show him being the type of guy to let a 5th year Max contract option go to play with one set of roleplayers over another set of roleplayers.

If dude bounces its going to be though a sign and trade. its the way the CBA is made in regards to superstar players and CAA won't let Melo not get that money. Thats their job and Melo lets them do it.

Ok let's see. The thought process of melo...

A) I can go the fukking Phoenix suns who haven't won shyt. Probably lose to the Spurs, Thunder, and Clippers early in the playoffs every year that I'm there.

B) I can go to the Bulls and play with Noah and a injured Derrick Rose. Surely that won't get me far.

C) I can go play with Kobe and the confused Laker's organization. The lakers more than likely won't get to the WCF.

D) I can go to the Miami Heat who have been to the finals the past 3 years, still get paid 15 mil, play with Wade, Bron, Bosh, and great role players. Pat Riley is the head of the organization and we have a huge chance of winning.

It's just too easy of a decision.

Maimi won't sign him. No way they pay him 45 million a year (after lux tax)

BTW you guys talking about pay cuts are neglecting to mention that Wade, LeBron, and Melo are currently and will continue to bank off of endorsements. If they actually team up and win a ship you're looking at even more potential endorsements and pay opportunities.Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not these guys are trying to win or chill and get some extra racks from contracts.

Maybe he wants some dignity more than a championship....

You ol if you can't beat em join em ass nikka.... I'll take my pride and being able to look myself in the mirror over a ring any day...

He goes to Miami to get a ring, he'd be more respected if he just stayed with the Knicks and never wins a ring. Everybody doesn't take cop outs like lebron and ray Allen. Prime example: Nash could've signed to the heat if he wanted... But he wanted a fukking CHALLENGE..

Some ppl actually have something called PRIDE in life.....

Smmfh
can't beat who us ? nikka knicks can't beat anybody :laff: :russ: it aint just us in Melo way that nikkas squad sucks..shyt personally id like to see him in phoenix tho him Dragic and Green would be ill Lala doesn't look like the phoenix type of chick tho :scusthov: but if he joins us i aint gon be mad at em[DOUBLEPOST=1397486667][/DOUBLEPOST]

:russ:All these Bulls and Heat fans with their wet dreams.

That Suns move sounds very enticing. They have the assets and the cap space to get things done.

  • Prime Dragic on a reasonable contract
  • Bledsoe you can reup and still have his bird rights
  • Just drafted your paint protector in Len
  • Morris twins off the bench. You have their bird rights too and you know they'll take a discount too to stay together.
  • 4 first round picks draft :damn:(Late picks but assets are assets.)
If he's willing to build his own empire it's all right there. That front office has the vision and potential to make it happen. He could be like Nash and completely change the culture once again :salute: could get paid and win at the same time.

Melo isn't going outwest, the path to the title is much more difficult out there.

If your melo you ask yourself 2 things

1. Do i want to win

2. Do i want the money

if yes to #1 then the only place that makes sense is chicago. Here you will be playing with a top 3 PG in his prime, top 3 C, top 3 coach, good rotation players, great fanbase, great city.

If yes to #2 then stay in NY and rot away.

I think him lebron wade and bosh have discussed him going to miami. The only way that happens is if they cheat peat, then all opt out and sign 1 year deals for around 6-10 with wade making the less followed by bosh, then lebron. Carmello could sign a short deal with Miami with a chance to compete for atleast the next 2-3 years for a title

Melo will take the discount, because he knows Miami is his only shot at winning within 2-3 years. Love will go to LA, it's likely that Aldridge stays in Portland, so no second options for NY. Bosh is going to take a discount, since he loves it here and doesn't want to be the man again.

Bosh isn't taking that discount. He'd be a fool to opt out. Look at his current play and look at his salary. $19 million. No state income tax. If he ops out there's no need to resign him when you can just throw Melo at the 4. and get a cheap big for center. Then what? Nobody will offer him anything close to what he has now. Why risk getting screwed?

And it's not just Bosh. All three of those guys would have to opt out and take a major cut in order for them to squeeze in Melo.

I can possibly see Wade doing that because he might get the front office hookup with Riley. No way Bosh does it.

Lebron.... maybe. But at some point the best player in the game will want to get paid as the best player in the game. Then again, Lebron doesn't seem hyper competitive about things like that.

If the only way for Melo to go to the Heat is for the big three to opt out and reduce there pay (again) then it's not happening.

Let's not forget how wack it will come off to fans if Wade, LBJ, and Melo somehow teamed up. Melo just might have too much pride to go through with that.

Also I think there are scenarios where Houston and Dallas are in play for Melo.

*edit it's my understanding that it will take all three to opt out and sign for significantly lower contracts than they currently have in order to fit Melo (who also has to sign much lower than what he can get elsewhere).

If anybody knows more about how this scenario can play out differently with respect to the Heat's salary cap, then please add on.

I won't avoid it

Look at the standings.

Even with no rose no deng they are 3rd in the east. It's not coincidence melo pointed out the bulls having a put in anybody and it wins system. That observation shows melo realizes regardless if rose in or not he wins. Melo realizes the sell on Chicago is thibs and that defense. Not necessarily rose.

With melo there rose would not have to carry that much of a burden which means he gets to get his d wade on coast for the season then turn it on in the playoffs while melo carries the load and challenges for a few MVP trophies

The biggest answer however is what other option does he have? Wouldn't he rather at worst always be top 2 in the east then take the risk with the Knicks and possibly waste the rest of his career?

I just think that Amare not being able to hold up is one of those things where a guy like Melo says "never again". Is he Derrick Rose or Brandon Roy? If anything wait it out a year in NY while Phil gets shyt in order.

But yeah I do agree with you about Thibs and Noah.
