Silly threads like this are why i often talk sales.
nikkas say the stupidest shyt, rarely any truth behind it,just straight nonsense. That's why i deal in facts.
This fukk nikka brought up PINK COOKIES & BACK SEAT OF MY JEEP,talking about it sealed LL's longevity.
Silly nikka,14 shots to ya dome was a flop and considered an L,no pun intended. Them singles wasnt even popping like that (compared to ll's other single runs)
nikkas be living in a fantasy, nikkas tried to downplay snoop as the "new kid" as if snoop didnt CLEARLY run 1994.
nikkas bringing up old played out rappers as if they were factors in 1994.
Whole thread is a shyt show
Yea Mr Smith was the album that solidified his longevity
:heh:

Of course Snoop was the biggest rapper in 94 but he was still an up and comer. He hadn’t solidified his legacy yet

BREH. the bolded has been my stance all thru this thread. youre agreeing with me.

I didn't say anything about kane. but youre right bout moe dee. I thought the "knowledge is king" album dropped in '90. he still had "death blow" tho.

yea. that's what dude was saying when he brought up kool moe dee. the people droppin all-time lists should be mentioning rappers like kool moe dee & melle mel. not just rappers that came out towards the end of the '80s. but of course, when people say all-time, they don't truly mean ALL-TIME 9xs out of 10.
Melle Mel and Kool Moe D weren’t relevant anymore in 94. Rakim, Kane, KRS, Kool G, Cube, Slick Rick, LL. Those were the rappers that the new dudes in 94 like Snoop and Big were influenced by. Their mark was all over the game at that point and they surpassed those older cats

Tupac.
Tupac dropped two classic singles the year prior.
Had two albums out,one of which that sold quicker than nasir's illmatic.
Also had some features leading into and during 1994
And he dropped thug life in 1994.

nas made illmatic

those 1st two pac albums were just aiiird.
thug life gets him into the top 15.

:comeon:

by this logic, the goat rappers are now lil wayne & Gucci mane.
they surpassed 2pac, biggie, jay, nas, rakim, LL, KRS, cube, kool g, slick rick, kane, etc etc

think about that for a minute.

Spice was above nas in 1994

Coolio was bigger then Spice 1 in 94. And he established himself with WC 3 years prior.

Actually in this day and age we say 'Top 5 dead or alive' all the time. Or we say 'Top 5 alive.'

When we mention that top 5 today the usual suspects are Nas, Jay Z, Jadakiss, Ghostface, and then it varys to where u might mention a deceased rapper. Or you might throw Lupe or Kendrick or Rapsody in the mix.

Yea but they didn’t surpass them. Somewhere after the late 90s the new generations stopped raising the bar from the previous ones

However Lisa Lopes and Queen Latifah did more for reaching your average woman than MC Lyte.

You weren't around in 94.:camby:

If u went extra for Lady Of Rage I would believe you were around...But Left Eye?

:stopitslime:

U going so hard for Lisa but in 93 Latifah and Lyte were more acknowledged then Lisas verse on this Poetic Justice song. U really gonna tell me this verse holds weight next to Ruff Neck or UNITY? :francis:

In 1994 Lyte, Latifah and Yo Yo were put together on a remix for a popular Brandy song.

Lisa has absolutly no song that was popular with her rapping in 1994. :heh:

Creep and Red Light Special were the first 2 singles in 94 and they had no rapping from Lisa. Waterfalls the video didnt drop till 95 and even by then no one was going extra for Lisa like u are.

My dude...if u woulda gone extra for Ladybug...I'd believe you, Ladybug was also in a group that had established itself big just a year prior and had bangers in 94

But you going extra for Left Eye....the girl who burned down ol boys mansion. Naaah, u weren't around. :ehh:

in the eyes of most of the people that came up on the rappers I named, who could care less about the '90s - THEY DID SURPASS THEM.

same way you really could care less about anything that came before rakim, KRS, etc, simply because you have no connection to it.

meanwhile, theres millions of people in their 50s that still follow hip-hop, who will tell you in 2018 that mel, caz & moe dee are the top 3 goats.

ive never EVER heard ghostface mentioned in any top 5s outside of the coli.

anyway, this isn't your era breh. the kids today aint checking for none of these old ass names except maybe a lil jadakiss up top. and they may give jay a try since his chit gets so much hype but he aint poppin.

their 'top 5 dead or alive' largely consists of more active names.

Sir I said from the start that Rage was better than Lyte...

I won't say it again. More people recognized Lisa Lopes than Latifah and Lyte. Latifah and Lyte did not write

This is irksome now.. You can like who you want bruh, I don't care

This conversation is going out of context here. Nevermind this popularity/sales thing that somehow always creeps into these conversations... forget about those people who don't really listen to rap too... because to be honest, they don't count. What would a damn top 5 in 1994 look like if we were having the convo then.

Yeah yeah @Wacky D I hear what you're saying... kids today are going to have a different list blah blah blah... but nevermind them too, because they can't have this convo. You were defending Left Eye like you were about to put her in your top 5 females. C'mon man you know what we're talking about here.

@ the bolded: but we're doing the same thing regarding the goat list. the reason that names like kool moe dee aren't coming up like that is because the eldest person in this thread was like 15 in 1994.

as for left eye; I cant put anybody in my top 5 without some sort of release, and presence in the culture.
I know left eye put mc lyte & latifah in body-bags when they got on the same track with her tho.

In 1994 Lyte, Latifah and Yo Yo were put together on a remix for a popular Brandy song.

:comeon:

lesbianest, left eye would've bodied every verse on this song in her sleep.

this remix was boring with no hot lines whatsoever. it was only popular cuz of circumstance - remix to a huge record, and they brought in 3 of the biggest female rap names ever at that point. but the remix itself was meh.

If Doggystyle was all he did,I'd agree. But considering what he did on the chronic. Plus murder was the case THAT YEAR. Snoop was that nikka
