My wife gladly took my name but I understand if someone and their girl negotiate hyphenation. I personally would not play her intentionally keeping her maiden name.
If she was famous and had a brand I would still ask for a legal change but she could use her old name in public.
Interesting, off all the married Black women my wife and I know, almost every single one with a Black husband took their husband's name regardless of education, income, etc.
Like 50%+ of the Black women we know that married non-Black men kept their maiden name. A lot of White couples we know have the same deal with the wife keeping her surname.

I think I could compromise on her hyphenating her name, but it would be hard not to take offense.
My wife made her maiden last name her middle name, and took my last name. Which was perfectly fine with me.
If she was an only child or only had sisters, I would be fine with her hyphenating her last name for the sake her father's legacy. Outside of that, I would not marry her. My children would only have my last name no matter what though. She would not destroy my legacy in favor of her father's.

My statement about my legacy was only about my children. My statement about her father's legacy, was about his own children if he did not have a son to carry on his family name.
