If you’re taught the new way it’s just the same

2 “tens” is twenty and then 7+3 is ten... ten plus twenty is 30.

It’s not any harder truly, it’s just getting kids to break it down into simpler forms and only having to truly add single digit numbers at the beginning

A teacher I knew showed it to me and it wasn't that bad.

I agree. Most people aren’t “carrying one” in their head. Mentally, we break down like terms because it’s quicker.

I know 7 and 4 is 11. I know 5 and 3 is 8. So 57 and 34 i can quickly get 80 and 11 or 91.

I strongly believe you should do math in whatever way is easiest for you. When I was in school I couldn’t do math for shyt, as soon as I got in the workforce and started having to be accountable for budgets, efficiencies, and p/l, something clicked in my brain and I became a human calculator. Trial by fire. I grew up with traditional math, but since my sister is a teacher, I saw some common core math, and thought some of it made a lot of sense to me, too. I think common core is more practical.

People won’t accept it cause it’s different and it makes a lot of people feel stupid but it’s better. It teaches kids to learn math not memorize math

My oldest is 5 and will be starting first grade this fall.... One of my fears was my kids coming to me with their homework and me just looking like..
