To me it was when espnews and cnnsi came out. It was constant highlights back to back to back all in 30 minutes. I didn't need to watch sports center for an hour to see if Vince Carter had a crazy dunk.

So basically what ESPN based it's whole network around I didn't have to watch anymore. The more internet stuff was available the less I had to turn on the actual channel.
I feel like this is right because they then needed entertainment programming to fill the void. Out with the hard-core fans and more catering to a broad audience.

ESPN is fukking useless. I watch all my highlights on YT via the house of highlights feed or once in a while on NBA TV. I only watch them for live games. and then the kicker is they put all their articles behind a paywall. I already subscribe to the athletic, so I don't need them or their shytty articles. and stephen A screaming 24/7 is far for compelling television.

WHEN THEY STOPPED CARING ABOUT SPORTS AND DECIDED TO USE EVERY BONE IN THEIR BODY TO MILK LEBRON JAMES FOR EVERYTHING HE’S WORTH BY FABRICATING HIS STATURE, DISINGENUOUSLY PROPELLING HIS LEGACY AND ELEVATING HIM TO A MYTHICAL LEVEL DUE TO THEIR INSATIABLE THIRST FOR ANOTHER MICHAEL JORDAN.

People trying to pin this on Skip Bayless he's been gone for like 6 years. ESPN has gradually been dropping people over money for a while now. You start cheaping out on your staff and at some point it's gonna show.

When Pardon the Interruption first aired.

So, 2001?

Once the channel went toward this debate show format, it opened the gates of hell.

never, you just grew out of it

This.

Sports are for children and adolescents. They call it a “child’s game” for a reason. All these nikkas complaining about how everything sucks now are just clinging to their childhood. Of course it sucks, it’s not meant for you anymore. :skip:

People looking for the old ESPN are like those complaining that MTV no longer plays music videos, in that if MTV starts to play videos once again they would go out of business as no one watches music videos on TV anymore.

If ESPN were to go back to their original programming style they wouldn’t find an audience because people have been consuming sports highlights differently over the last few years.

The minute they started doing debate shows and that was their flag ship, Scott passing didn’t help, but like one poster said you could go to sleep to it and wake up to it, they stopped concentrating on it so the quality lacked, and when you had shows like highly questionable and around the horn, I’d rather listen to that
