In the early 2010's established Hiphop artist's such as Jay Z, Kanye West, Eminem, Ludacris, Nelly, Snoop Dogg and others were still putting out hits and dominating record sales. You did have newer artists such as Wiz Khalifia, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Asap Rocky, Drake and J Cole who were doing their thing but the established rappers were still selling records and putting out popular songs.

But one day a shift changed where all of a sudden you had these soundcloud rappers all of a sudden dominating the rap charts. When did the shift happen was it in 2015 or was it sometime before or after that?

The ascension started over a decade ago. But the switch to Mainstream guys like that dominating the charts started with DS2. When that went #1 everything started changing. Trap wasn’t selling in the mainstream unless you were Jeezy

2015. The rise of streaming platforms, Future and Young Thug’s ascension, new era of trap producers blows up, SoundCloud rapper take over.

And the guys on the 2016 and 2017 XXL Freshman class changed the game.

What hits were Snoop and Nelly putting out during the early 2010s? All of the guys you mentioned with the exception of Kanye were at the end of their careers around this time.

The shift you're speaking of happened 2015-2016. Like @ISO said that year's cypher, as horrible as it was, helped solidify the current sound. XXL is usually hit or miss but they hit on EVERY freshman in 2016.
