2015 - 2016 was when the shift happened...that’s when artists were pretty much blowing up off SoundCloud and early streaming. I ain’t gonna lie I kinda miss those Reezy London tapes on SoundCloud...that’s how I got on XXX, Slump God, Carti, Uno, Fauni, Yachty, etc.
Fauni/D Savage/Uno :francis: , all should be much bigger.. I think that A$AP Rocky cloud rap wave also changed rap wave forever, then you got that whole wave of Bones/Xavier Wulf/Lil Peep/Yung Lean

2016 was the beginning but the SoundCloud wave is over since Juice, Peep, and X died.

2015. The rise of streaming platforms, Future and Young Thug’s ascension, new era of trap producers blows up, SoundCloud rapper take over.

And the guys on the 2016 and 2017 XXL Freshman class changed the game.

I think this is the only real answer. Streaming took off in 2015 and that's when everything began to shift, as streaming rules ended up changing a lot of shyt. Playlist placements, singles counting towards album sales, death of the blog being necessary for releasing music, how Soundcloud adapted through all of this and then add in the advent of social media challenges and yeah everything shifted.

Then you look at the run Atlanta has been having the last decade and how they've influenced the product so heavily as well. 2005-2013/14 was the blog era. 2015-present is the streaming era.

As far as finding new artist and sounds. Soundcloud era was GOAT

the playlist on streaming that everyone listens to now may as well be the new radio

Began with 50 cent to be honest..if you think about it.
The senseless beefing and discrediting of superior rappers to him taught the public not to take rappers seriously anymore, thus opening doors for all the wack 'Lil so and so's..'

Soulja boy was the start, at that point anyone could rap. It became less about skill and more about selling ringtones. The bar was lowered since Soulja boy. Future took a long time to pop and was more underground Atlanta, so I can’t say him. Soulja boy was the first one on the main stream. I’m not even mad at Soulja, cause it would been someone else. Music today to majority black people is looked at as a meal ticket. Until we value are selves, bring back artistry back and own are music. The music will be pimped out for gain and look we been there look at takashi.

Drake, Future, A$AP Rocky kicked off the modern musical era around 2012. I think it's coming to an end at the moment, the trap/soundcloud rap scene is stagnating.
