Nah, earlier than that. Like by 2008 when Jeezy was ending his crazy run and Gucci Mane was coming up.

That was when black culture up north was obsessed with ATL slang and trends, and named everything "trap"

Trap music was definitely heavy in 08. But we weren’t surrounding every activity we do around it at that time.

By Summer 2005, anything east coast related was bushed for Trap shyt from Jeezy, TI, and Gucci Mane. That was when people stopped with boom bap and pushed trap snares on beats. On top of strip clubs strangely gaining popularity in the Northeast in the mainstream.

Anybody saying anything before 2011 missing what OP is asking. Around 2013 maybe a year or so earlier trappin went from selling drugs in the hoods of ATL to meaning just working hard hustling or grinding. Then it ended up replacing the terms hood/ghetto and we ended up with trap-brunch, trap-yoga ect. The same way in the early 00s a small restaurant would be serving "ghetto punch" or an RNB singer would call a woman his "ghetto queen ". It'll phase out eventually like those did.
