I would say 2015 when Thug, Migos and Future was on fire
Yea DS2 was really the tipping point
When the middle class black kids that grew up listening to trap music graduated from college and became young black professionals that wanted to signal that they were hip and not like the previous generations of young black professionals.

It is very corny.

These are some great points, The trap listeners who grew up on the OG TI and Gucci mane trap music were graduated adults with capital when Migos and Future reached their pinnacles a decade later. That’s when they brought trap into the corporate world.
:ohhh:

This is the right answer. It went hand-in-hand with the whole “pretty girls love trap” thing going on.

Chief Keef gave birth to DRILL MUSIC that is 100% killing other black folks, and Keef himself skipped video shoots and money making activities to be on the Chicago blocks and cause trouble.
He didn’t give birth to it, he just blew it up. Murder rap was already on its way back.

DMX, Scarface, Three 6 Mafia, Mobb Deep we’re talking about what was really going on from a first person perspective.

Why do people pretend drill isn’t just 90s murder rap resurrected.

Drill music was an offshoot of trap music. Trap is all about glamour, bytches, hustling, and being in the clubs every damn night. Drill is about ditching mainstream society, and just kill, kill, kill.

When the South emerged..nothing good has come out of hiphip since.

A lot of former bad things, like tricking, stripping, scamming, and mumbling, became mainstream to black culture and it harmed us in ways that some claim that we will NEVER recover from. Before the mid 00s, those things were forbidden on the street level in the east coast and you were treated like a damn child molester if you engaged in those activities. The south came in, and murder she wrote.

The Truth
I bet most if not all that shyt is in Atlanta

Mostly the only place I’ve seen with black people obsessed with the “trap”

Now if we’re talking about music, I think more white people are obsessed with it than we are/were. There’s a whole trap genre
