Since 1985's "Superbowl Shuffle" probably doesn't count ... I'll go with 86-87.

First tape I got was Fat Boys "crushin," but I was into run dmc and the beastie boys as well (wish I still had the poster I had in 88 with them both together).

Some years I listened to/bought everything (94-95, 98-99); other years I listened to rap and alternative rock/punk ... which is kind of where I'm at now. But, I can always find some hip-hop I like from every year (most alt/punk/pop I like is 20 years old or more).

yea. the fat boys, run dmc and the beastie boys were the main groups I listened to when I got into rap in the '80s. along with ll cool j, whodini and a host of others.

haha. my man said super bow shuffle. what you know about the GLOW theme song?

I saw Run DMC and L.L. Cool J and they were the first musicians that were cooler than Michael Jackson to me.. It's been my primary choice of music since the age of 7... Over 25 years.....

1985 Around the age of 6. I had an older brother and my friends had older brothers. So I heard early Too Short, Ice T, Slick Rick, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys.

Seriously, '01 when Ether dropped.

Musically that song changed my outlook on hip hop forever (wasn't the hardcore fan I am now before then).
