Yeah, when I 1st started reading his post, I wasn't expecting his Macklemore
I started with a few songs here and there from Bone (east 99), Big(Life after death), Nas(IWW) and Jay(Vol 1), all from an OG neighbour who lived up one floor from me, he was a dj and he'd hook me up with casette tapes i'd listen to on my walkman on the way to school.
So basically I started gaining strong interest around early 96-early 97.
I was basically eating of his tapes from then all through the DMX era till about 2000
The first album I bought for myself was the Blueprint in 2001

Kevie Kev - All Night Long was the first rap song I remember hearing but I really payed that shyt and rap music in general no mind until around the PE/Ultramagnetic era. CB and Pauls Boutique were my first purchases

Since 1985's "Superbowl Shuffle" probably doesn't count ... I'll go with 86-87.
First tape I got was Fat Boys "crushin," but I was into run dmc and the beastie boys as well (wish I still had the poster I had in 88 with them both together).
Some years I listened to/bought everything (94-95, 98-99); other years I listened to rap and alternative rock/punk ... which is kind of where I'm at now. But, I can always find some hip-hop I like from every year (most alt/punk/pop I like is 20 years old or more).

Im black n Im from Queens so I grew up around hip hop... Rakim Nas Ll cool j Mobb Deep BIG Kool G Rap Jigga Wu tang...QB rappers used to run Queens music scene in the 90s
