same in my city
i wonder if there is any economic impact related to this.
the days of a rasheed wallace caliber recruit going to public school in the middle of north philly are done with

Philly public schools are horrible anyway. I know some cities like Camden and Chester don't have great school options

.the game has changed over the decades....recruiters pick them off early and put them through a process...there's still players from the hood...but those days of a recruit getting word of mouth of someone on the playground is long dead.

if you check the resume of a lot of NBA players..a lot of them came out of Catholic Schools because those schools are private and can recruit playrs with scholarships

On rare occasion you get a Tony Romo or Joel Embiid type who didn't start playing until HS...but the rest of them dudes start in youth programs

I'll never forget...when I use to run track and Kevin Jones (RB Lions/VTech) was 16 at the time running for Cardinal O'Hara HS....he was built like a pro and had two personal trainers/coaches watching his every move... before he was even known to anyone...we all looked at him like :dwillhuh: and asked ourselves "who tf is that" like a scene out of coming to america 3 or some shyt.....they clearly knew what they were doing because he became the #1 Top NCAA football recruit in the nation in his senior year after mike vick left.., and went 1st round in the NFL

My cousin used to go to Cardinal Ohara but transferred to Chester high for his last year. Still can't say that was a mistake though because a lot of talent comes out Chester High (Jameer Nelson, Rondae Hollis)

My Pops Forever RIP
If you're a late bloomer and you happen to be at those schools, they wind up being those kids who either start at JuCo or a smaller mid major and wind up transferring when it's apparent that they slipped through the cracks.

Otherwise, they're on the prep school path early. Lance Stephenson and Kemba Walker are the last in the city that I recall who didn't have to go that route (and their high schools were basketball powerhouses) Mo Bamba a Harlem dude and as soon as it was apparent that hoops was gonna be in his future, they sent him to New Hampshire for school. Hamidou Diallo from Lefrak City, he wound up going to school in Bumblefukk, CT

Jersey kids you can still kinda pluck from the hood, but those kids wind up in really good catholic schools and eventually make it out.

Cole Anthony was poised to be the last kid that stayed in the city for his entire high school career until he went to Oak Hill because he would have been exposed without Moses Brown who went to UCLA.

If all the kids that left, stayed in the city, New York would be a problem.

They ain't getting enough reps if they just hooping like that these days, just playing 5 on 5 all day without the skill work :patrice:

I remember the summer after my freshman year I played ball every single day for like 6 hours. I got put on this aau team and they had us running suicides if you miss free throws like in middle school...I was next in line like. I ain't shot a free throw in 2 months :bryan:

Cole Anthony and Moses Brown played together at Archbishop Molloy HS in Queens.

They were still products of the elite Catholic bball pipeline.
