I also wonder if part of the popularity is because of the obsession with american culture.

Nah for Jamaica they say specifically the ingredients are different, I think in general KFC customizes the menu to the market and the USA brand recognition gives it a bonus (Id argue KFC is more popular in other countries than it is here), but I have always heard Jamaica in particular had the best KFC. There is even a running joke in the airport in MIA of nikkas smuggling KFC back to the states.

Having eaten both KFC in america and jamaica. Jamaican KFC quality is far better than it is over here.
Popeyes is not as popular as it used to be in Jamaica. I hear it fell off. It will probably go extinct in Jamaica same as MacDonald’s

KFC in Jamaica is second to none. I think it may be one of the only places that have continuously had barbecue and spicy chicken on the menu as a standard. I’ve never seen it anywhere else. KFC in Bahrain is also not bad. KFC in the UK is trash. I only get the wings.

KFC in America has too much salt, not enough of the herbs and spices and plus y'all use those mutant chickens so it's really impossible to season it. The colonel didn't anticipate chickens becoming the size of pigs when he made his secret recipe.
Jamaican KFC used local poultry that's a lot smaller but packed with more flavour. If you ever travel to Jamaica, in addition to authentic jerk chicken you have to try KFC.
