Granted I know that development costs are an issue, but there is so much that has not been explored. There is some serious money to be made with a couple of games I would love to see. Here are three off the top.
A long running comic game (think Comix Zone)
Take a character such as Batman, Spider-Man, Superman...whatever and release "volumes" every couple of months or yearly to add on to the series. Maybe release it in 2 hour chunks for $10 each...I think the potential can be huge as long as a long fleshed out story can be made...or maybe each volume can be it's own contained story and the players navigate through cells just like Stretch does in Comix Zone.
A real WWII RTS
World War II had many battles...release a initial game which features 5 battles that take the players 2-3 hours to complete (10-15 hours total) and release battles later on via DLC. Map it out similar to how Rise of Nations did in the past...that shyt would be EPIC. Bethesda, Valve, or Blizzard can make this happen. WWII games do not have to be FPS
I would pay $1,000 over a generation for that shyt if all the battles outlined here are done:

A detective game
Again, a long and drawn out generation game which can be expanded by adding new cases throughout the years. Maybe get the community involved just like Fez had the whole internet going wild when the game was initially released in where it leaves people guessing as to what kind of case would be next. Murdered Soul suspect looks interesting, but its not enough IMO and will probably fall flat.
We need to stop looking at just multiplayer as the ultimate solution...single player games are more important than ever IMO. Titanfall got boring for many...who really wants to keep playing COD, BF, NBA 2K, or MLB The Show online year after year? We need different experiences...fresh new ideas that push the idea of what games are. I think that is what has pushed me away from PC and home console gaming these days.
Think of the best games last generation, IMO the single player games were still the most important.
Batman Arkham series - Great single player franchise, one of the most important games to be released in years IMO
Bioshock series - Storytelling at its best, I think the gameplay is a little overrated.
L.A. Noire - Great technology, I found it boring, but it was an important game to show what is possible
Max Payne 3 - Great shooting, great story that pushed forward. Unfortunately not much that can be added
Uncharted - (More specifically Part 2 and 3)
Tomb Raider - GREAT reboot
Assassin's Creed - Took historical elements and made it fun...the series was very important this generation
Mass Effect series - I don't need to expand on this...EPIC shyt
Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim - Just like Mass Effect...I don't need to expand
Others:
GOW III
Borderlands
Heavy Rain (Was not explored enough, could have been that detective game)
Add more...I know you guys have ideas. The same old shyt is getting bored to some.
Oh and before @Wild self comes in with his Nintendo spiel as usual...NO. They have their own lane and do that great...we want more epic experiences. Fallout and Skyrim have proved this.
