his hustle and drive... My pops had over 40 years as an educator, he went from being a teachers assistant, and finally retired Asst. Superintendant. You know teachers were not making bank back in the day, so he had all those little extra jobs so that me and my brother had just about everything we ever wanted. The Starter jackets, Tripple Fat Gooses, bikes, etc, and all the vacations. I remember him putting quarters in a big azz water jar, and when it filled up, it would be 300-500 each time... and it usually went towards our summer vacations to Wildwood, NJ

The fact that for such a short dude he was also the coolest person you'd ever meet and the life of the party. It's kind of hard to explain how I mean that. Coming up on a year since he died. And I was just planning on shaving off my beard to emulate one of his early 90s looks.

Your reason, OP, was something I admired about my grandad though. He wasn't subtle about it in any way though lol. He came up in the 40s and 50s in the mountains and was not afraid to call a cracka a cracka.

His commitment to being unaccountable for his actions. If I had a son like me I'd be proud of me. All the dads I worked for said they'd be proud if their sons turned out like me. It always made me angry and sad because I've never seen my dad. Never heard anything about him. And I don't know his name. Sometimes I look at the similarities in my bro's face and mine and try to imagine what he looks like.

I used to dream every night as a kid about what my dad was like. Lol I seriously convinced myself my dad was just working and travelling. I thought my dad was Kobe Bryant at one point because I admired KB so much. When I was like 12 I realized I didn't have a dad. I was in class and my classmates were working on family tree projects. I couldn't fill the dad side out. I wanted to cry in class. Instead I got so mad.

Now whenever I thint about him I get furious and it motivates me to continue to succeed. He's going to see my name and my face one day and wish he was a part of making me the man I am. I use my childhood as fuel. fukk that bum ass nikka. I hope he dies of AIDS in a gutter somewhere. He ruined my brother. I'm FUBAR. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with my absentee father. I ignore it. I don't want to address it because I get so angry I can't control myself. My mom wants me to find him. I stopped talking to her for almost year for even suggesting it.

I needed him as kid so bad. One day I didn't need him.

Hug your pops. Thank him. Tell him you love him and you appreciate him spending time with you. I've followed your posts. Your family seems like a good family. I admire you and them for being brave enough to be a real family. Try to forgive your folks for trivial shyt my man. Parents aren't perfect. They won't always admit it but they learn on the job too, lol, trust me. I was a nanny for years. I appreciate your support. It means more to me than you know. Luckily growing up the older cats always viewed me as their little bro because I had an older bro. They weren't fathers to me, but they helped me develop into a man by setting an example. Sometimes it wasn't good. I'm going to give my kids everything I didn't have. I should thank my pops for showing me what not to be. Which is absent.
