The thing they're attracted to is growth. If a man has no passions, has no goal that he dedicates himself to, most women are less likely to gravitate towards him. The difference between men and women in the dating world is that women are spoiled for choice.
Their dilemma thus becomes "did I make the right choice?" If she can brag that she's dating a man who owns his own business, is dedicated to his athletics and health, is highly educated, etc. They're more likely to feel that in a sea of options they've made the right pick.
If you're an average guy(no Sixpack, no six figures, no six weeks of vacation or six series BMW or other foreign whip) then what they want to see out of you is the POTENTIAL to become that kind of man.
If your goal isn't to become a high earner with lots of free time and an athletic physique then you've got to spend time going to events where people are there to celebrate an interest of yours. You're more likely to meet a woman who will be satisfied with dating a man who is her equal in terms of social status/achievements and values.
The most important thing is to strive for what you want. What makes you happy. That enthusiasm and energy attracts friends and women.

I was in Raleigh NC at the time. I was making $11, but I was also working like 65 hour workweeks, hustling on the side, and STRUGGLING like a mufukka, so me saying $11/hour isn't exactly right, but still... I was all up in young bytches guts lol.the fukk u live

A brotha making 90K a year would be in the upper echelon of income earners in most places not named NYC, Cali, Chitown, and a few other places with a ridiculously high cost of living.
If a man makes 50K or more with his own place, vehicle, and a little bit of swagger he can get a decent or better woman. Obviously he isn't going to get the same options of man with wealth, fame and popularity play a huge factor in attracting women, but a more everyday brotha can do well for himself with the opposite sex.
As women get older they start looking for stability and a man that would make a good husband and a father to children. A woman's dating pool gets considerably thinner after 30 years old and almost as dry as the Sahara after 40 years old.
A lot of ladies curve themselves into being single with baggage with all the superficial shyt when they are young.
If an adult man in his mid 20s to 30s with his shyt half way together can't even halfway eat in that environment he needs to reevaluate his approach.

Women are hypergamous, and that's cool. I don't see why so many men got an issue with that. shyt is human nature. It's no different than we as men wanting the finest chick we can get, women are going to gravitate towards the most attractive guy with a lot of resources that she can get. The shyt just makes sense.
EVERYONE with an average or better level of self esteem is trying to get the best partner they can possibly get. Nobody WANTS to settle when they know they can get/deserve better.
