What's the appropriate age to tell a black kid about slavery ?

Great question.....I would suggest as soon as possible. Reading and learning about slavery in the classroom, especially if his classmates are predominantly white, can be a traumatic experience. At least as a parent you can control the information to your discretion, and help modulate whatever sort of emotional reaction he or she might have.

plus its sugarcoated, lincoln freed the slaves, the underground railroad, george washington carver and peanuts.

I remember for myself my parents made me watch roots as a little kid of like 5 or 6

at 4 or 5, likely nothing. Most white kids rarely even see a black kid besides on TV

9-10 years old so they can understand it. my niece is 10 and I ask her all the time about what they teach her in school. Naturally they teach some fukkboy shyt so i take it upon myself to lace her with some real game about everything. I think 4, tell them right in pre-k... so they just know. Then when its time to show them such docs as Eyes On the Prize understand things better.

I learned by 5th grade and watched the whole series of Roots at school

but I'm pretty sure should have learned about that stuff from wayyyy before.

His story doesn't mean him as the white man,.that doesn't make sense at all..his meaning that history is written by men and not women ..why would a white man say "his" like he was referring to history been written by white people like he's not white even tho he is..

My son has been asking me about death and telling me he doesn't want to die, and that he knows what the end of the world will look like ever since he went to one of his great grandmother's funeral and since his mothers' church talked about Revelations. Dont do it breh, they minds aren't really capable of dealing with that information in an acceptable manner in my opinion

For me I told my son about slavery at 4 when he started pre school & I'm glad I did. He has a strong sense of who he is & where he came from. He asks some tough questions about race but he's thirsting for knowledge. He's very pro Black & asked me the other day why white people (specifically singers & rappers) try to sound like their Black. I couldn't believe he asked me that.

Im not saying they can't, I just dont like what goes on his head after he hears it. He'll likely go around thinking all the white kids are racist when in fact they dont know shyt about that stuff yet. I rather give him a couple years
