His story doesn't mean him as the white man,.that doesn't make sense at all..his meaning that history is written by men and not women ..why would a white man say "his" like he was referring to history been written by white people like he's not white even tho he is..

Are you scared to...i dunno...be a responsible fukking parent? :beli: :stopitslime:

Its not supposed to be easy.

I'm more worried about getting my future kids to care about education than their views on race.
Who said anything about easy dummy :snoop:
I don't feel like a child's (4-5) mind can process some of the shyt..dumping shyt you think they should know on them before their mind is ready to receive the information can do more harm than good fool

I'd say it depends on how you tell it. Don't give them all the gruesome details of it, just explain that we were brought from Africa and give them a few small details about it. Then as they get older, you can add in a few more details. That's what my Dad did, and I turned out fine. :yeshrug:

Glad to see this many reactions
the reason I asked the question is that I remember being shaken up the 1st time I watched roots, I think I wasn't older than 5-6 and ever since my skin still crawls a little whenever I hear that theme.
I do think it can cause some trauma to a black kid's mind and that it should be something thought ahead
but I dunno if there's a definitive right age
it's tricky, I wouldn't want my child to learn about it accidentally by hearing some comment but at the same time for me the best way to introduce them to that story would be if I realize they start noticing certain things and I see it could answer some questions. not be too brutal about it

as early as possible.

do you people actually remember being told about slavery as kids? :wtf:

as soon as i could read, i was reading kids books about frederick douglass, harriet tubman, other prominent figures in african american history. so i pretty much knew about the basics of slavery all my life.

Don't forget to tell them about how they used the bible to enslave em..while you're doing that tell them that Jesus isn't real..

My sisters been taking her daughter to church,,my niece..a few days ago she was praying when I was playing GKMC and that part when Sherane came on..next time I'm gonna have a sit down with her and tell her about slavery and try to get her away from that church..

I'd probably do it around 10 years old or so. And try to start with something more positive before then.

I was watching Arthur with my nephew, and the episode was about Africa. I was telling him that that's where we came from. When he told me that he wanted to visit Africa, I felt hella proud inside.
