And by comfortably I mean at minimum you're not living paycheck to paycheck, able to enjoy your weeknds/hobbies etc. Monthly expenses are not more than 75% of your monthly income.

-South Florida:
--Minimum 55k
--Optimal 75-90k

Especially if you have kids, a car, student loans, bad credit, and with the high cost of rent and housing that'll definitely take up a high part of your income.

In DC though, you'd be struggling. You need at least 80k. Anything less and you're going to be either living in Southeast, living with roommates or living outside of DC in Maryland or Virginia. A 1 bedroom that's in a cool neighborhood would be $1150 in Philly but would be $1950 in DC. White people ruined that city.
I'd say 80-90k for anywhere in the DMV.

Shiiiiitttt I'd say 120k. Most people making 80k still have roommates or live extremely far from Manhattan. The rent is too damn high.

I agree, unless you want to live in a area on outer edge of the 5 boroughs.

I was looking at apts recently, I was surprised how small of a apt 2000 will get you. You basically can only afford a studio or a really small 1 bedroom.

Living in Manhattan :scust: you going wrong right there.

I'm buying my crib just outside of NYC (15min). Won't add much to my commute since I work in the Bx. With the tax credit less than 1100 for a two bedroom. fukk a $1600 rent :scusthov:

Hopefully my loan forgiveness kicks in and I'll be more than good (over 80k, will hit 100k with bonuses and per session). I'm blessed, but I don't give a damn about living in Manhattan or BK

Even 1BR apts in the hood in Queens are $1500 :gucci:. A shyt studio is like $1100-1200. In the fukking hood. shyt is astounding.

For me it would be $100k+. With that said, it also depends on what goals (long and short term) you have with your money. "Comfortable" may mean different things to different people.

shyt is outrageous. I grew up in the hood I don't need to live there now and I don't want a damn roommate either.

I think more young black professionals who are ready to buy (a co-op or condo) need to move just outside of NYC where your money will take you further.

If you live in the bronx or westchester, you will fvked by tolls if you drive.

That's why I would prefer to live in queens or Brooklyn, there are a lot of free bridges.

In the Bronx, you have the Henry Hudson, throgs neck bridge, rfk bridge, white stone bridge, I think it's $8.50 each way. Don't make any friends further than Washington heights or Harlem, cause you won't get to see them.

Bay Area - 120k if you're single.
If your family isn't bringing in over 200k, you're struggling.
