coming from an immigrant family yourself babe....do think the black immigrant experience is somehow "easier" than say the experience of being black born in the states? :dwillhuh: i have my views on this of course..i'm just trying to understand where your coming from...

personally i think there are opportunities for black immigrants because some of the stereotypes against them are different and they present an "exotic" factor that an african american does not have and present alternative to having to choose an african american like biracials do. i am not saying anyone is perfect and that things could not be better.

Top Colleges Take More Blacks, but Which Ones? - New York Times

While about 8 percent, or about 530, of Harvard's undergraduates were black, Lani Guinier, a Harvard law professor, and Henry Louis Gates Jr., the chairman of Harvard's African and African-American studies department, pointed out that the majority of them -- perhaps as many as two-thirds -- were West Indian and African immigrants or their children, or to a lesser extent, children of biracial couples.

Both Professor Gates and Professor Guinier emphasize that this is not about excluding immigrants, whom sociologists describe as a highly motivated, self-selected group. Blacks, who make up 13 percent of the United States population, are still underrepresented at Harvard and other selective colleges, they said.

Researchers at Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania who have been studying the achievement of minority students at 28 selective colleges and universities (including theirs, as well as Yale, Columbia, Duke and the University of California at Berkeley), found that 41 percent of the black students identified themselves as immigrants, as children of immigrants or as mixed race.

In the 40 or so years since affirmative action began in higher education, the focus has been on increasing the numbers of black students at selective colleges, not on their family background. Professor Massey said that the admissions officials he talked to at these colleges seemed surprised by the findings about the black students. ''They really didn't have a good idea of what they're getting,'' he said.

''They've found an easy way out,'' Mr. Carnevale said. ''The truth is, the higher-education community is no longer connected to the civil rights movement. These immigrants represent Horatio Alger, not Brown v. Board of Education and America's race history.''

to make it worse, you are repping Detroit :aicmon:

look at your city Median household income 2006-2010 $28,357

breh in the GRAND scheme....its not alot....perhaps its was taken out of context. 100k is a great amount for some one who has nothing...but when you look at the stratification of wealth in the country...you have people with articles of CLOTHING worth 100k....:stopitslime:

Detroit is struggling, but people arent taught how to be smart with their funds. We done had generations of people with new and fast wealth that was pissed away on things like Cartiers and shyt. Not to mention there is a phenomenon of people with money moving out of the city....look at the county DIRECTLY NORTH OF DETROIT....

Oakland County is one of the riches counties per square mile in the country, its about more than just were you live, friend its the culture. I know people making over 100k a year and guess what because of the CULTURE they were raised in they STILL aren't to a place where they feel comfortable....

THAT was my point.

Life insurance? I thought we were talking about accumulated wealth and assets, not insurance policies. But something is something I guess. :ehh:

I was listening to something on the radio the other day and they were describing how you can use a life-insurance policy to generate a tax-free revenue stream in retirement, while still getting the insurance benefit. Sounded like a pretty good deal, but I was in-and-out of the car at the time so I didn't get all the details.

Bitcoins is a digital currency that is anon. You set up rigs to mine them. You can break them down into to decimals. There is only 21 million of them available. In three years 9 million have been mined.

You can buy almost anything with them.

You keep bit coins in a wallet file.

How do I get started? Is the money in "mining" or in that stock exchange?

black immigrant parents push education ALOT more than American born black families. Thats the reason they relocated their families in the first place.

100k aint even alot...

the whole point its most people forget about things like property, stocks, savings and liquid assets...

Most of the people who have 100k or over 100k have these things...not just some 401k and a pension.

Unfortunately, the education we have in this country is not made for us to be competent in matters of finance, we are bred to be consumers in America :manny:

100k aint a lot? I hope yall nikkas is in high school or something cause Ive rarely seen so much ignorant shyt in 1 thread. Unless ur in manhattan or something 100k is upper middle class status easily. When my dad was making like 120k a year we were living in a big ass house with a pool. Im making 70k right now and living very comfortably. I doubt 99% of people in here are seeing six figures but its the internet so everyones an entrepeneur

Yeah, it's a slept on field because it's not "glamorous" but you can get alot of guap working in SCM. I honestly think had I taken that opportunity, I would be 25 making damn close to 100k.
