What is this based on? Do you think that if Black Americans had frugal spending habits, they would be able to build wealth? Is there any evidence to support this? How can you build wealth when most black people are either unemployed, underemployed, or low income? 80% of the wealth in the United States right now is at the top, making the U.S. the most unequal western nation.

FAAAAAAAACTS

Yes, I do. Read any article, magazine, book, etc about building wealth and/or getting out of debt and for the most part it starts with creating a budget and cutting out shyt you don't need. Then it goes onto using that excess money to pay off debt and/or invest it.

It's not about how much money you make, but more so what you do with the money. Yes, as black people COMPARED to whites (or other races) we aren't making as much but that doesn't mean we aren't making ANY money at all. So the money that we are making we can be smarter with how we spend it.

my thing why CAN'T they do it when others having been here only a generation or two CAN.
my grandparents on my moms side were able to leave a couple hundred thousand dollars in inheritance...plus a $300K home full of heirlooms in only ONE generation. granted it's not "wealth" by any stretch but to say "you have to have something to leave something" is bullshyt they came here with nothing.. worked hard...were frugal..and did that in only 40 years. meanwhile 400 hunnid years later black folk native to the country still making excuses up down all around...

Yes but you have to consider a couple factors. One, if we're talking about your grandparents coming from a different nation, then we're talking about immigrant group success, and we can't put that in the same category as African American success, because while they both are essentially the same people, they have a far different experience. Secondly, if you are talking about your own experience, that is an anecdote, and anecdotes are usually the exception and not the rule.

:snooze: What do you mean it's not about how much money you make? You realize there isn't even any wealth in the black community, how can you "pass it on" just by saving a few dollars at the end of the month :laff:.

Black unemployment rate rises to 14.4% in June - Jul. 6, 2012

And this doesn't account for under-employment. People like you have been brainwashed by the media into believing black people are poor because of their poor spending habits, and their propensity for "rims and bling", when in reality that is just a vicious stereotype. The true nature of African American poverty is rooted in SYSTEMIC RACISM and ECONOMIC EXCLUSION, STARTING WITH THE NEW DEAL!

It just depends.

I think my dad crossed the $100K mark when he was 40.

I'm trying to get there earlier. My uncle hit 8 digits before 40 but that's a special case.

LOL "at the end of the month"

Motherfukker, I'm talking about over YEARS! Look at the bigger picture.
Bottom line is, it's what you do with your money that is always going to count. No matter how much or little you have.

And I'm far from brainwashed but I'll be damned if I'm going to be stagnant in my financial state just because I'm a product of "systematic racism and economic exclusion".

Ok... Er docs make really good money but you goin overboard with that 500k. does he by chance have his own practice and works part time at a hospital? because you wont find an er doc that makes that much hell, most surgeons don't even make that. Trust me man I have doctors in my family and I thought long and hard about doing medicine before choosing engineering.

his situation is pretty unique, he's a partner in his ER group so he shares in the overall profits of the group

works at 2 separate hospitals... picked up and moved his family from Tampa to Marietta, GA because the dough was too much to turn down... usually works around 16 shifts w/ the group he's a partner in at one hospital (think its called Kennstone?) and like 4-5/month at another that pays him a lot more hourly because they're night shifts

Most people will never come close to earning a 100k salary. Doesn't make them dumb or lazy.

Our financial system prevents many people from making that much. There has to be someone at the bottom.

If you don't understand this then you are simply out of touch with the way things work.

100k aint even alot...

the whole point its most people forget about things like property, stocks, savings and liquid assets...

Most of the people who have 100k or over 100k have these things...not just some 401k and a pension.

Unfortunately, the education we have in this country is not made for us to be competent in matters of finance, we are bred to be consumers in America :manny:

:umad: you're soooo stupid.

Median household income 2006-2010 $49,138
Persons per household, 2006-2010 2.81
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/06/0644000.html
...and that's L.A. one of the most expensive places to live in the nation with the highest salaries. The medium for damn near 3 people is about 50k in LA but 100k per year "isnt alot" for one person, dummy? :troll: :pachaha:

:skip: you dudes in this thread are so misguided and stupid it's not even worth talking to yall.
