Hold on nikka, show some respect. I ain't put that man down at all, that was just my point in creating this thread and asking.

Telling someone you are clearly what I dont want to be...yeah thats putting them down, just because you add "no offense" in front of it, does it give you a pass bro..

Went to school for IT, started out in help desk, gotta bunch of certs. I'm in security now, so I got my CISSP, CCNP Security, and was about to take my CCIE Security before I said fukk it and decided to grow my own firm fulltime.

I remember when I got my first client, it was a connect from this chick I was banging after I moved to ATL. It was for a job out in Chicago. I sat in on the kick off conference call, had my worker on the phone, and coordinated the time and place he's supposed to be there. I probably put in a good 4-5 hours of actual work. After the job was done I asked the client if everything was to her satisfaction, and she was pleased. She signed off on his time sheet (17 hours), faxed it back to me, and I sent her an invoice.

Few days later I gotta check in the mail for $1700. Haven't looked back since.

Now my goal is to sign businesses up on a recurring basis. 300-1000/mo to be their technology experts. I'm hoping to bring on 30 clients at 1000/mo by the end of the year.

Good shyt on starting your own firm.

Cats would be surprised how much the most laid back IT person makes. While they may not show it outright in their car or style of dress, IT people are making bank.

My girl is a recruiter for an IT firm and she stays on me about finishing my certs and not getting comfortable working in the NOC. Most people she recruits avg close 100k or up. She tells me I could be there in no time if I just bang out my Security cert and get a Government clearance.

I'm currently a CCNA, 2/3 CCNP, thinking about grabbing my CISSP or going back to Voice.

Moving to Fairfax, VA in 2 weeks. I'm 25 btw.

so u can show off u made 100K by 25?

c'mon nikka.

u clearly just wanna indirectly sh!t on ppl who haven't made it there and prolly never will.

So... It's human nature to wanna stunt. I'm doing better than mostly everyone I know but there is nothing wrong with wanting more and no one will convince me there is...

I was thinking about going this route also but would I have to go back to school for a Computer Sciences degree and then get the certs or could I just get the certs and crank that shyt. I made a IT thread in HL but that shyt got out of control.

If you're going to be a consultant, the path is help desk, certs, move up in your career. If you're going to be a business owner and start your own firm, the path is network, hustle, grow your business.

IMO, school is a waste of fukking time. If I could do it over again, I woulda skipped college, and went straight for my certs. Having the right experience is more important than a IT/CS degree.

Go on monster.com, look up those 6 figure jobs, and see what skills are in demand. That's what I did. Then I taught myself that shyt at home, waited until I had about 2-3 years of experience under my belt, then went to doing contract/consulting work.

If you bust your ass, focus, and get your certs, you can hit 200k in about 10 years. I've gotten emails about jobs paying that much. Also, you can eat real good in Afghanistan on a government contract. I'm talking 3-400k. You'd have to be able to get clearance, and have your CISSP though (DOD mandate).

I can only speak for myself, but the time table is part of my fire. I have to set dates and be super hard on myself. All my friends that know me always say "the fukk you putting so much pressure on yourself for?" Without that pressure, I'll be havoc status. Eating fast food, beating off 3 times a day, and fukking whatever dingy fat bytch would have me :wow:

9 figures? That shyt ain't right breh. What's his name/address, I can get some goons to hit a lick real fast on dude :birdman:

Breh his parents just downsized from a 25k square foot house to an 11K in the same neighborhood. But my boy has drive and he's making about 80K a month just off affiliate marketing

Honestly, 100K a year to me ain't shyt. My goal in life it to make 1 million a year after taxes. If you work a regular 9 to 5 that's very hard to do, but some people on this site own businesses and are really getting money. I personally know a couple cats on here who are under 25 that make more than that.

Personally, I love IT. It's probably why I excelled at it :manny:

Man fukk your girl and everyone like her, I can't stand recuriters. I have 117 unheard voice mails in my phone right now cause them b*stards won't stop calling. I took my number off of my resume and profile on all them sites and they still keep blowing my shyt up somehow :damn:

On the real though, if you planning on working for the gov't, get your CISSP. If you're planning to stay in Cisco land, pick a specialty, and stick with it. Also, make sure you have experience in different vendors. Yes Cisco is the de facto when it comes to routers/switches/vpn/firelwalls, but there'a a lot of juniper, checkpoint, sonicwall, palo alto gear out there. Get your hands on as much shyt as you can. It'll make it that much easier for you to get the gig.

:dwillhuh: 80k/mo? that shyt cray. I'm guessing having his pops connections helps with that. Hearing that though just gives me more motivation. When I was like 23/24, I wrote down in my phone what I wanted my dream life to be. My goal is to be worth like 300 mil. Honestly, I see no reason why I can't do it. It's not like I'm trying to be a billionaire :russ:

I'll never forget the day he told his pops. He was excited and was like "dad I grossed 80K this month!" And his pops said "that's nice son, but I made more than that today. You can do better"

To be honest it's very easy to make a 100K in America, you just gotta work extremely hard for it. Most people would rather take the easy way out but fortune always favors the bold.
