To be honest it's very easy to make a 100K in America, you just gotta work extremely hard for it. Most people would rather take the easy way out but fortune always favors the bold.

On the real though, if you planning on working for the gov't, get your CISSP. If you're planning to stay in Cisco land, pick a specialty, and stick with it. Also, make sure you have experience in different vendors. Yes Cisco is the de facto when it comes to routers/switches/vpn/firelwalls, but there'a a lot of juniper, checkpoint, sonicwall, palo alto gear out there. Get your hands on as much shyt as you can. It'll make it that much easier for you to get the gig.
