She went to bat early in her career for universal healthcare, and was told to shut the fukk up, sit down and play the background, people felt she was endangering her husband’s career. So miss me with the universal health care shyt when she was one of the early leaders for it and saw/felt the blowback from both sides, that’s years of conditioning to stay away from that topic. Lastly, half these fukks are the ones voting down Obama care without knowing how they benefitted from it because “it’s welfare for the lazy”, you’re thinking logic when the working class whites, especially as you get into exurban areas, are not thinking logically. “Culture” >>> policies, please stop acting like you haven’t seen this.
And yes, white fear >>> white woman. She’s attached to a party that in the previous four years was known as a minority coalition, fighting for bathroom rights, etc. the shyt dems were making waves for directly reflected a threat to Christian, heartland white norms. So yes, trump was able to play up white populism and swoop in.
More progressive policies weren’t going to win that swath over, they needed to hear things just for them, trump spoke just to white folks. She definitely could’ve spent more time there, no doubt, but 2016 was a learning point for both sides as it was an inflection point in elections that comes along every 20 years or so, had trump not been the candidate, someone focused on white identity politics, maybe the switch wouldn’t have happened, but we all clearly learned a lesson - white people want their country back.
