I always thought there was some reason the oven couldn't be on the floor and needed to be elevated.

On my parents oven, it’s a broiler. So from then on, for about 20 years, I always thought that’s where you put things you want to broil. When my ex moved in and started putting extra pans in there, I was like “what are you doing that’s the broiler”. She told me that you broil in the oven and that’s just a storage area. Blew my mind :mindblown:

Back in the day we had a gas oven and it was the broiler. It felt weird trying to broil something practically on the floor. I have a gas range now and it's the pan storage bin.

That's where the heating department (ignitor/safety gas valve) is located & it's also a broiler which can be used for searing certain meats or even toasting other foods.

If you have a gas stove and the oven part stops heating the ignition at the bottom could be lit up with a lighter etc.

The broiler is crucial for gas range ovens.
