That's a misleading article.

The truth is buried in a thread on neogaf.

But basically

Its not good for people to think this is an AAA game that Sony is just gonna fund.

He needs kickstarter money. The more he gets the better the game will be. He's not lying when he's talking about streamlining the gameplay, or only having one environment.

This is still an IP owned by sega who told yu to go get his own money. There's no telling how this is gonna pan out.

Not a credible source.

Not a credible source.

That's straight from yu suzukis mouth.

Here you go

http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/17/8798203/shenmue-kickstarter-budget-sony

"For right now, all I can tell you is that YS Net has been looking at other sources of funding and we're preparing other sources of funding, so for the Shenmue 3 project it will be what we can source from outside plus the Kickstarter," Yu Suzuki told Polygon when asked about the budget. "But for right now that's all we can say."

When we asked whether Sony was providing any funding for the project, we were told that no further questions would be answered on this topic.

Sony hyped up their part with careful wording. But the fait of this game does not lie with Sony. This is any other indie that got some extra attention/promotion from Sony.

Logic? That's just business.

Business is sega owns the IP.

Business is the Sony 3rd party program does not fund full games.

Business is yu Suzuki still out here in interviews like:feedme:

Its damaging as fukk for y'all to peddle this incorrect narrative.

Some people really care about the outcome of this game. Not just the hype you Sony clowns can peddle on forums:francis:

Sony is helping getting this game out, but that's not my biggest problem :patrice:

What if the game gets shelved or cancelled like many games do? What happens with the 3+ million dollars that gamers have paid out for it? Will they refund everyone via kickstarter? This could be a very dangerous road to go down and I am not sure I am with it. Surprised nobody on here has made a thread on this yet. 3+ Million is not much when it comes to a full AAA release.

I might cancel my pledge, they don't "NEED" my goddamn money with Sony and other sources throwing money to them as well :francis:

BTW, the Kickstarter has slowed to a crawl. After all the crazy buzz initially, it still hasn't reached 3.5 million dollars.

The IGN video is something people should keep in mind about Shenmue, the Shenmue franchise overall has been a financial disaster

They need the kickstarter. YuSuzuki hasn't mislead anyone. He keeps saying he needs the kickstarter money. It was Sony who mislead with all those vague statements about funding and "partners" so people started to think the kickstarter isn't needed, cause it was being funded by Sony.

That's not the case. Shenmue 3 how we want it, is still very far from reality:sadbron:

Yu has been clear in saying they will make the game the budget allows, they don't make anymore money. It'll probably be some small episodic narrative driven thing just to finish the story. Not the AAA follow up to 2 that fans expect
