I get what he means. He should have worded it better. Dude is a fan of gangster street music and not a fan of all this soft funny music so to him gangster street music is real and everything else isn't.

KW really did kill gangster music and change hip hop.

People say all these gangster rappers are now wack and fallen off na your Taste in music has just changed and are following trends.

That's ultimately a good thing, bruh. I used to love all that, too, but as I matured, I realized most of it was foolishness and destructive. Sure, it also opened the gates to a lot of garbage music, but it's not like all that gangster shyt was great- we just thought it was great because we were younger and it was hot at the time. Look back at some of those beats and rhymes. Most of them are generic as hell, most of the songs sound the same, and on top of that, the messages are all negative.

Will Smith been around since the 80s tho :manny:

(i hate being long winded on here but shyt scressful my nikka)

true indeed. but for every will smith you had 5 tupacs.this is why hiphop as a whole been kind of corny lately. these j cole kendrick wale types be dope rappers but they lack that star quality or "it" factor that make a nikka like ghostface or cam or pac or jada interesting to talk to.take that recent jada interview for example.cole kendrick and drake are no where near as entertaining as listening to kiss speak for a few minutes.those dudes are dope rappers but they're corny.this is why the over all vibe of hiphop is getting boring and dry.and no, i dont mean gangster rappers beefing or killing each other.more so that hood nikkas like people i grew up with have no representation in a culture that was created so they could have a voice.

regular every day guy rappers being the majority in hiphop is why you can have nikkas wearing skirts and dresses and all type of fruity shyt thats not hiphop getting pumped to the masses and nobody saying shyt about it.
same reason why you got nikkas scared to say kendrick got robbed because they will be out there on their own voicing a politically incorrect opinion.our culture is being censored my nikka.hiphop is supposed to be politically incorrect.how we go from fukk the police to batty boy anthems?

if a nikka made fukk the police today the powers that be would blackball that ass.

hiphop been:rip:

They dont want to admit this. But this is the truth. Hip hop is so damn boring cause NONE of these nikkas is stars. Hip hop used to be a hard game to get into cuz you needed credibility, charisma, skills, and much more. To make it to the top of ya city, let alone the rap game.

But now thanks to this weak ass era, cornballs are able to bypass the whole mark of a MC and get catapulted straight to the top, thanks to Complex, Pitchfork, and what ever wack ass blog that pushes these hipster darlings.

Troy is the epitome of a cornball. all that alleged wink wink stuff is corny. and if hes so nice with his words, step to drake, step to the supposed greats of your time. ll had no qualms with taking a mofo out. biggie had no issues lyrically chopping a mofo out. where is troys lust for competition

Im not even talking bout all that. You nikkas want to fall in love with these rappers personality and live thru these nikkas. All I care about is the music. And as far as music is concerned. Troy makes good music. Im not even a fan of NY music like that. But Troy makes dope ass Eastcoast jawns, that actually SOUND like eastcoast jawns. And he DID step to Kendrick. Thats where 75% of his internet dweeb hate comes from.

Kinda fukk with dudes music...the whole 50 Cent Jr. "I'm bringing NY street music back" thing is his schtick, so he has to kinda hammer home the "weirdo rapper vs. street based rapper" point over and over so he can get his gimmick over with the public....just part of the game

The insinuation in here is that if someone likes "gangsta music' they are childish and foolish or that they have yet to mature. Maybe they just like good music period and like to be entertained. @TheLoneRanger Kanye West was chosen over 50 because he made better music and he was as a person was nauseating. At same time Young Jeezy and TI blew up because people found them engaging. Kanye West didn't kill anything, people just got tired the generic street rapper and these new guys repackaged old thoughts with a younger and more modern face and alternative. Add to the fact that they rapped better than the average rapper of the time and you get the era of Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick, Big Sean and Wale. If you're judging music not on it's skill level or artistry, but based on what you personally feel about the content (not how it is executed), then you're making an evaluation based on substance and not based upon music. That is why I feel people who hang on either extreme (the gangsta shyt is only real vs. I need to be taught something in here) should not be the ones reviewing albums.

As for Troy Ave, he's entirely generic but has a listenable voice so there is potential there. But no one cares about him like that. I only heard of him on this site.

fam all that is weak.
Where is the progression in the music? These kids arent even trying.

I got bored last night and started watching 90's hip hop vids...Rap hasnt progressed since the mid 90's, shyt has been stale and folks have been using the same formulas forever. Its the same thing that happened to rock...it got stale and the sound didnt change much.

Whats missing from a lot of these cats is authenticity....of course Rae was no coke kingpin...but you can tell a lot of the old head were dudes from around the way...the type you wanted to watch because they had charisma.

I watch a video like this and get all :wow: because you could get a feel for what the era was like just from watching them. The current generation is trying to mimic this, but it so obviously phony because the vibe in the cities isnt like this anymore.
The reason why someone like Kanye gets so much love (aside from the fact he's crazy talented) is that you can tell he's just being true to himself, whether you love him or hate him.

Problem is, most of these "old heads" wasnt about that life themselves. I said it in another thread. The internet killed off about 80% of the mystique of the rap game, cuz now we see it for what it is. Mobb Deep, Pac, Biggie, Jay, Nas,Dipset most of these cats arent who they say there were on raps.

Groups like Dipset n Mobb Deep are not that much different from a Troy Ave. With the over the top ness in the raps and personas. Just let these young boys cook and stop trying to uphold them to standards that were unrealistic from the start.

I do agree with you however on how most of this new generation are trying to mimick the past, rather than trail blaze their own way.
