What's wrong with athletes caring more about money than winning?

I respect athletes who are professional.

If they care more about money than winning I aint mad at them. As long as they live up to their professional obligations and put in decent effort at their craft then they can be movitated by whatever suits them..

fans dont care about you and they prove it season in season out

I've never understood why people get mad at athletes for paper chasing. Unlike the rest of the working population, their profession is over by 40 (best case scenario). I'd sleep good as NBA player if I was getting my stats, max contracts but it didn't translate into me getting a championship.

I'd rather be the all star that didn't take pay cuts.

Yeah as a fan (I consider myself a die-hard fan of fthe Knicks) you have to be able to understand players are humans, so more than the team comes into play for life choices. Like you said a sports career goes by quick, and that's you stay healthy. That's why I changed my opinion on kids who enter the league early, I don't like it as a fan, but as a human being I understand...I mean what can I say to a breh who wants to make dough to help his family out :yeshrug:

On the other hand I understand a player takes a pay-cut : maybe he already feels set for life and would rather be on a good team than a struggling one, doesn't want to go live elsewhere/uproot his family or not see them often enough. But it shouldn't be "expected" from players. Dirk took a pay-cut, he has his reasons, Kobe didn't, he has his reasons.

I understand when it's, for example, a role player not wanting to play for the Cavs for a 3 year 30 million and instead signing with a team like the Suns for 3 year 70 million because that's not a lot after taxes in the NBA and they are role players, their careers are not that long , but these superstars in their mid 20's taking 200 million 5 years and signing to terrible organizations that won't take them anywhere instead of getting a 130 million 4 years contract and putting themselves in a situation where they can compete I will never understand.

This family bullshyt is the worst excuse I've ever hear, don't come to me with this shyt. You can feed 10 generations with 130 milli, why the fukk would you care about your 15th generation? Plus that's no even your last contract :dahell:

Boogie will sign with the Kings, I hope he gets that Melo treatment for the rest of his career if he does that.

I totally agree. Athletes should be able to navigate through their careers however they want to. I don't like how sports fans levy these expectations on people that they wouldn't look twice at if they didn't play sports. If a man doesn't care about being a winner and just wants to earn potentially generational wealth, then let him cook.

Players like Dirk, Lebron at the Heat and others who take pay cuts shouldn't be looked at more admirably because of their decisions.

Money does not go bad at age 40. Your career can be a knee injury away from being over.

The goal is to have both a ring and the money.

Chris Webber is a great example of this yet not many people talk about.

He kept flirting with going to the Lakers with :childplease: and :shaq: low-key recruiting him to come to L.A. The Kings owners at that time, the Maloofs, launched a huge campaign for him to stay in Sacramento , including putting up billboards saying that they'll mow his lawn if he stays :heh:

Webber resigns for 100 MIL only to blow his knee out the following season in the playoffs. :snoop:

He's dealt to Philly the next season , never being the same player again . :francis:

What if he went to the Lakers and didn't blow his knee? :sas2:

Not necessarily. Robert Horry didnt accumulate more money than Scottie Pippen.

Also, Peyton Manning will have made more in his 18 seasons than Tom Brady will in his first 18 seasons

Jordan wouldn't be Jordan if he didn't have 6 rings and be considered the GOAT

I have no problems with players making their money but they can't complain about their team, talk about being an all time great or being in the hall of fame.

Their playoff record should be the measure.

Yes. I said "not necessarily" though. It definitely helps but it's not THE defining factor otherwise Horry would be richer than Jordan.

Because fans are people who are entitled and believe athletes are their possesions, and feel like they can demand whatever they want from them simply because they are paid to play sports.

They feel like they have a free ride, but in reality they work harder put in more time at their job than they do at theirs

Man f*ck all that, I will never hate on another person (especially a black man) for getting that paper. Of course the competitive players want to win championships & such, but at the end of the day, "rings" don't pay the bills, but that big ass contract will.
