This album confirmed my conspiracy theory that J. Cole was signed to Roc Nation to perpetually be Blu IV's living toy. A human doll the public would think is a rapper but in reality is really just a baby sitter for Mr. Knowles whenever he needs some "down time".

Very disappointed, and I was really rooting for the guy :ehh:

As of right now, popularity wise: K-Dot, Drake, Wale, and ASAP is above him :manny:

And for personal taste: KDot and Big Krit is making the music that I thought Cole was capable of :yeshrug:

i thought it was a beautiful piece of work. it's the kind of album you have to listen to a few times to appreciate. I've seen dudes be like he talks about money and bytches for the whole album. that really just reflects poor intelligence on the listener's part. cole was telling the story of how he cheated on the rap game and his girl; the entire album is a meditation on how he came back from that. IMO it's not as cliche as GKMC, since it does not end by saying "I'm now a saint," but by saying "fukk it, the sinning is a part of me, but ill do my best to not let it envelop me." it's a shame groupthink holds a powerful grasp on the minds of many listeners. cole deserves props for this one.

I love the concepts, I think he stepped up his delivery big n/h time, but I just don't "feel" J. Cole n/h. I love some of his older songs in spots, but I dunno, I just don't fukk with him like that.

This project is like a 7/10 imo, but his cadence, breath control, presence has come a long, long n/h way from where he started. I feel like he's finding his voice finally, but the songs themselves are just boring to me for the most part top to bottom n/h.

Don't know yet but around 8.5/10 could be correct.
Don't know if it's better than Take Care yet, it's definitely a top 5 album among the new era rappers.

1. GKMC
2. Take Care
3. Born Sinner
4. Section 80
5. Habits and Contradictions

Don't trust these nikkas though, they all up in his thread swear they hate him and that he's boring and still bump his shyt religiously and post about him frequently.
I think 7/10 is the lowest review he could receive, from someone who really doesn't like him.

6/10 is the most I can give it

The music is pretty bland

The production has some high points but at moments seems to just drag on

And after the first initial listen..I have no desire to re-listen to any of the tracks outside of "Let Nas Down" and "Forbidden"

It's the second best album of the year next to Long.Live A$AP. I say it's a 7.5/10, and a definite step up from his debut.
