Hayley (or whoever's) votes would be almost entirely Never-Trumpers who hate Desantis too. I don't see how that has any appreciable effect on the race.

Never-Trumpers aren't voting for any of the three.

In a head up race, a lot of the GOP will be scared to vote against Trump in fear of retribution. A wider field gives them cover because the MAGA base can't deliver Trump a win split three or more ways. Those reluctant Trump voters will more likely lean towards a potential "winner", which is what their polling has indicated and why they're slowly moving on from Trump. Republicans are tired of losing and Trump, even with his base, in their eyes does not give them a good chance of winning.

Yes, I was using the term "vote" generally. But yes, they wouldn't want to endorse Dansantis openly and he doesn't beat Trump in the primary.
