He meant that 90s street rappers had better production post PE era. Mostly west coast influenced.
I mean 90s street rap had the best production in the history of hiphop. Talib, Mos Def, Roots, J Live, Souls Of Mischief etc. etc. had amazing production

It seems like you have to make turn up or trap music these days in order to not be called "fake deep" or something along those lines.

it became un-cool when it became synonymous with backpackers & incent-burners.

and then when kanye came thru and was given the conscious tag(even tho he doesnt rap about chit the vast majority of the time), it became a bunch of weirdos standing on a soap-box, mainly whining about how corny their lives are. so now its been dilluted to "every man" rappers being given the conscious tag even tho most of them really arent conscious.

from the mid-90s on out, most of the best consciousness came from street rappers.

theres no big conspiracy to this chit. people are gonna rock to whoever & whatever as long as their chit jams. conscious rap became uncool when dudes stopped jammin.

When corny cacs started wearing African medallions and images of punks in Afrocentric gear were strategically placed in the media.

It had a revival in the late 90's - early 2000's so they just drowned it out under the noise of dancing minstrel jiggaboos that time.

Kendrick being the face of it made it uncool.

Tupac was conscious and is the most popular rapper of all time
.
Tupac wasn't a conscious rapper so to speak. He had conscious themes but so did almost everyone in the 90's. A lot of rappers had one or two socially aware tracks or at least a few lines here and there. So Tupac wasn't of the mold of a strictly conscious rapper he was just a product of his time.
