That 2016 XXL freshman cypher. People gas the hell out of that but it’s terrible. I like some songs by 21 Savage, Kodak, Yachty and Uzi but that was the beginning of the end

It fell off a long long time ago.

It’s been surprisingly resilient at being mid with bursts of brilliance.

I will say that I’ve been highly enjoying the music I do listen to tho. Stop being mainstream sheep. There’s still tons of great underground and Indy scene rap.

*The south is what is keeping hip hop alive :francis:

*Imagine if we had to rely on NY n LA offerings only for the last 10 years :picard:

If this is the case, you may be apart of the problem why rap is in the state it’s in consumer wise. Half these artists are dope. Some haven’t made listenable music in more than 10 years. I can name multiple past and present day southern artists that have better current music than a lot of this list.

hip-hop had a lull in the mid-late 2000's, then heated up again from 2011-2018. it's been diminishing returns since 2019 and we in another dark age right now

the alt hip-hop scene of today feels like the early-mid 2000's but with better music. (Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, JPEGMAFIA, Billy Woods, McKinley Dixon, Griselda, Lupe, Pink Siifu, Quelle Chris, etc.)

don't get me wrong there are some AMAZING hip-hop albums dropped in the last three years but i'm talking about the genre overall and the mainstream especially

Late 2010's for me.

Havent listened to a single project from any of them nikkas
They had heat you slept.

For me definitely during the pandemic.

All the late 2010’s acts feels like they died, got locked up, got stale, or labels disinvested from them. :francis:
